Yeah, a Facebook group would be good.
A shitty travel job was my excuse for not coming here. What's yours?

That's a good question, really. I think I just gradually kind of got away from it. I had sort of stopped posting a lot of places for awhile (had been traveling, trying to focus on grad school, then after grad school my new job and then marriage). I checked in every once in awhile but the place seemed to be dying, and I've got most of you guys on Facebook now so there wasn't really a pressing need to stay in contact on this particular forum. When I had the time and desire to start posting again, it seemed like most of us had kind of moved on. There was never a single overt reason for me, I don't think. I never got mad at anyone or tired of talking with you guys or anything like that. I love all you guys, really.
I don't know. It ended up being just a combination of things, I think.

Between work, sleep, gaming, I'm left with a few hours a day. And with no activity here, I stopped checking it super often.
I have one major issue with a facebook group, though. I keep internet stuff very separate from anything that requires me to use my real name. My Facebook is basically for stalking people I know IRL, and organising bits of my RL social life.

I am sad at the demise of this board. I closed my Facebook account before they went public and I have been assiduously trying to erase my presence from social media ever since. I'm with Fellblade on this. Facebook is getting worse than MySpace. I still have my accounts, but the itchy finger of permanent deletion has been tempted many times. The only thing, and I mean only thing, keeping me on social media is trying to maintain contact with old friends since FB is now the default way to communicate with people it seems. I live nearly a hermits life as it is (even though I have two children nearly in their teens to take care of, and their mom), and losing touch may finally break me. In closing, fuck facebook. Fuck virtually all types of social media. It hasnt done anything for me.

That's all I keep Facebook around for too, Hellfury. I don't even know how to InstaSnapChat or whatever.

Someone should drop Vengis a message; his twitter is still active. The more the merrier?

I have succeeded in removing myself from Facebook.
step #1: Download all of your content in HTML format. (This is for your own sense of posterity. If you get nostalgic, open up the files and stroll down memory lane)
step #2: Delete your account (For my original account, they gave me 2 weeks to change my mind. On my secondary account, they gave me 30 days. I suppose that was good, because I forgot to write a phone number from a friend. So i reactivated, and then realized that all that info was already in my downloaded files and then went back to delete.)
I dont know what it is, but the sense of deletion is too final for me. I dont want the service nor do I use it, yet FOMO is a powerful compulsion even if you opt out. Crazy.
