So, recently border officials used tear gas and pepper spray on protesters near the border. While I don't agree with those who attempted to cross illegally, using tear gas on the ENTIRE group of protesters is a pretty extreme response. But that seems typical of this admin. Instead of increasing processing capacity, why not just use violence? How do you feel about borders? Should we simply not have them? As others have pointed out, we used to have open borders and america was considered the best for a long time... On top of that, most of those people weren't trying to cross illegally, and I specifically said I didn't support those trying to cross illegally. But I also don't support the use of tear gas, rubber bullets, or pepper spray on the peaceful protesters. Look at how Israel handles the border with Palestine, and you will see what our current administration desires us to have. I'm okay with that. You do realize what Israel does must violate some ethical standards, even by republicans atrophied sense of empathy, when they gun down a bunch of civilian men, woman, and children right? Or is that the appeal? You do realize this comes off as "gun down those icky brown people!" right? That's a new low even for you. |

No one has expressed any other rationale thoughts on what to do with migrants wanting to cross the border like this. What should we do? Simply ask for identification, a reason why they're here and let them through? Because all I see is Orange Man Bad here. |

Maybe what we always used to do? Arrest them, process them, examine their claim for asylum, and not tear gas the ones who aren't illegally crossing but peacefully protesting?
And, for the record that's way different from what happened this time. This time they did it to peaceful protesters who were NOT crossing. (Also, nice whataboutism, keep deflecting)
Why do you keep avoiding that? Because it shuts down your stupidity?

Oh, and whemb, I'm in favor of giving them the rights granted to them under US law. Like Due Process.

See what I mean? You're framing that incident that it was purposeful because of your hatred towards Israel. Well the caravan wasn't interested in going through the process legally. The crowd was ignoring orders, attempting to overwhelm the United States border. They wanted to cross the border in any way they can. A sovereign country cannot allow groups of unauthorized immigrants to storm its borders. Can you agree with that at least? I think Trump loses his Asylum case, simply because the law states that anyone within the U.S. can claim asylum. The question becomes, do we detain them (the law states we could) while adjudication or do we release them back to the public with the hopes they come back and face the results of their asylum requests (catch & release). |
