Hi, It doesn't matter, as Hero wasn't released anywhere until 3 years after The Matrix was, but yes, I would have. In The Matrix (the original movie, not the stupid sequels), the wire fu was actually used in a minimalist manner, and when it was used, it was used in a neat, "light gravity" manner. In Hero, it is used in every fight, and when it is used, the people look like Superman. It's not a manner of jumping really high or being able to push off walls and lunge forward or anything like that, it was literally like the people could fly. I kept on thinking "why don't they just fly up in the air and start dueling like the terrible final fight between Neo and Agent Smith in Matrix Revolutions."
And it looked terrible and cheap. IMO, Chinese action cinema has so much more to offer us than cheap looking wire fu. Erase the wire fu from Hero, and it would probably be one of the finest action movies ever. For the rest, they have it down pat- interesting yet not overly complex plot, drop-dead gorgeous cinematography, kickass fight choreography, and talented actors. It just seems like such a sad copout that they have to rely on the cheap gimmick of wire fu. Thanks, Manga

Magna just said what I did, but in a nicer way. The wire fu being as hokey as it was completely distracted me from anything that might have been truley good in the movie.

Ah, wire-fu. That was a minor sticking point for me. Sometimes it didn't bother me, sometimes it really bothered me. It just seemed to "fit" better at times in Hero. The fight between Broken Sword and the Emperor (and them getting to the throne room) was beautiful, and was not very wire-fuey. The fight on the lake was weird, but didn't bother me too much. It was still a great movie, from a cinematic point of view, and the wire-fu was give and take, but I think more a matter of personal taste. The plot itself, I feel, was the weakest point, but it is an action flick at heart, so that really didn't bother me too much.

Guess I'll have to check it out.
That, along with hundreds of other films.
