To the complete indifference of all, I have registered. With Dakka down, I needed another outlet at which to register, post a handful of times, then disappear for months at a clip. I used to post on Portent, then Dakka (where my original account disappeared?), but mostly Portent. Then Warseer for maybe a month or two before making a new account at Dakka, where I have probably averaged less than one post per three months. I kinda burned out on the negativity during the lead up to Legions Imperialis. I don't mind criticism at all. In fact, I think it's important. But the interminable and pointless "it's going to suck; no it's not; yes it is; how do you know?" discussions weren't exactly inviting. I'd never owned an Epic game, so this was my first, and it was the first time I was excited about a GW product...probably since 5th edition. It's hard to be excited about something when the N&R thread for it is mostly bickering. When one of the most positive posters for the game (one who has contributed a lot to keeping excitement for it alive) was unfairly slagged in that thread, I kinda checked out. I've finally reached an age where I realized I don't need that much negativity in my life. Not picking on Dakka. It's more the internet in general.
Anyway, you lot seem more or less reasonable human beings, so I thought I'd sign up. Don't worry, I'll probably forget the url in a day or two.
(I do miss those ork emoticons...)

Welcome. I’m also dealing with Dakka withdrawal. My Dakka negativity thread of choice was the TOW thread, but I finally got what I needed to quit it. That is not a thread for the feint of heart. At any given time, the N&R threads for 40k, TOW, AoS, and the specialty game du jour really do a number on the concept of joy. These are toys, after all, are they not? Wonderful little toys tied to gloriously overwrought (occasionally even humorous) lore. I’m sure I’ve fired off a grumpy post or three over the years. Had it been expressed in person with pint in hand, you’d know it was minor venting. You’d know that I love these little things but like to have a good grouse now and then. Who doesn’t? But I guess I’ve learned this doesn’t translate very well on the internet. It only becomes a catalyst for a negative spiral…an abyss of misery that overwhelms whatever innocent intent there may have been. |
