Yep. My poor son. We moved to an area that's supposed to be relatively crazy weather/geological safe. Instead, we've had a (minor) earthquake, two blizzards and two hurricanes since coming here. Ah, well.

It now looks like Joisey is going to take the brunt of it. Storm surge in 'slower' Delaware is already bad, though.
Everything's cancelled through Tuesday and there's a driving ban throughout the state. So there.

Damn! Either it's worse there than we're used to here, or Florida is a bunch of dumbasses (probably both). I've never seen a "driving ban" here.

Like the UK's typical "OMG WE'VE HAD AN INCH OF SNOW WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!one11!!"
*ahem*
Anyway, stay safe, anyone who's affected.

Remember, DE is pretty low-lying, and on water on both sides--Delaware River on one, Chesapeake Bay on the other (and split in half by a canal). And there's a dearth of roads, and only three roads to get north from the canal) We had flooding before the rain actually showed up just from the storm surge, and most of the roads flood pretty easily. So the driving ban is basically to keep everyone but essential work crews and first responders off the road.
Having said all that, you're right; DE is supposed to be protected from hurricanes by a) North Carolina jutting out into the Atlantic and b) New Jersey. Which means if we're actually going to be hit by one (as in this case) we're in deep kimchi. Not just because of taking a direct hit, but as y'all said, being that this isn't Maine, Cape Cod, Florida, The Carolinas etc., the locals really have no idea what to do with weather. The level of panic is pretty hilarious. I lived through two major Hurricanes to hit the Cape (Gloria and Bob) and the "Perfect Storm" of '93, as well as the Blizzard of '78. This ain't any of those, but you'd think Katrina were coming while someone was summoning C'thullu at the same time.
So Ia! Ia! Ia! I guess.

Lost power at 8pm last night (I'm at the synagogue now with the fam, which has full everything and no damage, thank HaShem). Looks like most utilities are restored to the area and the driving bans are mostly lifted. I've heard that there are trees down and the like. No water in the basement despite no sumps running, roof is intact, no trees down in my yard or on my house, masonry looks intact. Looks like most of the congregation is in pretty good shape.
Reached out to the leader of the Jewish community in Rehoboth. Haven't heard but it's such a mess down there, even with most of the flooding having receded.
New York looks like a warzone.

Did get to do some painting last night despite it all; two stugs done before the power went out and started some brettonians for a HYW project I'm working on (Thank G-D for headlamps!).

It's interesting to see which sites were hosted in the area. Some of my porn sources have gone down already.

Safe thoughts to everyone that got weather-fucked.
My town got what was reported as the worst winds in Ontario. We were almost untouched. My power was off throughout the night an hour or 2 at a time, from 12am, until 9 am, and that's about it. We have a soccer ball in our front yard that's not ours. It was worse throughout our area though, my next door neighbour had a new roof put last week, and half of it was blown into our yard. One fence post we share was blown about 20% off plumb towards my yard, easy enough for me to fix. And a few of my halloween decorations were tipped part-way over.
My brother live one street over, and had some tree damage, he was without power, phone & internet until late yesterday, and lost about 20 feet of fence in his quarter acre yard. My parents lost a hanging planter, but their neighbours also got it worse, behind them an old maple fell on their neighbour's house, and next door their neighbours entire corrugated fibreglass, patio roof blew off.
I'd say it's good planning that I heavily prune all the trees on mine, and the neighbouring properties I can reach, early in the summer. There are hundreds of spruce & cedar throughout town that were toppled, owing to their shallow roots. I only have maple variants around my place.
Seeing the pic from Jersey & NYCit's clear hopw lucky we are
