Fresh threads! Good to see!
So, politics. What hot-button issues should we talk about first?

Trump’s horrendous Presidency that even fellow republicans bemoan now?

It definitely is problematic. It was interesting to see Senator McCain's funeral with speakers from both sides of the political spectrum just going to town on the current state of affairs.

Well, the issue is that Trump has managed to piss off everyone. The LOWEST approval of any sitting president.
When you compare him to a man like McCain, it's.... almost embarrassing.
Also, this seemed to be a problem in previous threads, so an Immigration flow chart:

From outside of the US… well, we hear this a lot but it really doesn't show. He doesn't seem at risk of being impeached, and it doesn't even seem that certain that he won't be re-elected.
Honestly, I think you got screwed BIG TIME by your two party system. In France, the far-right candidate wouldn't have run as the “mainstream right-wing party” candidate, he would have run as the far-right party candidate, and maybe reached second turn, but then right-wing electors would have had to choose between two candidates that aren't from their usual party, not “vote my party or the sworn enemy other party”.

ATM Independents are the biggest political group, numerically, so we'll see what shakes out.

How does that translate in votes? Does it translate as independent candidate getting absolutely negligible scores? It usually does, doesn't it? Not to be a PITA, but with a two round elections, much more people would feel free to vote independent/third party candidate during the first turn, knowing that in the likely case that their candidate don't win, they can still weigh in between R and D in the second round.

How does that translate in votes? That's the big mystery atm. In previous elections, Independents have been a minority. This may be the first time they're actually a majority. <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 34.180000000000064px; height: 2.960000000000008px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_40178427" scrolling="no" width="34.180000000000064" height="2.960000000000008"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 34.18px; height: 2.96px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1638px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_41795351" scrolling="no" width="34.180000000000064" height="2.960000000000008"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 34.18px; height: 2.96px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 89px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_27551808" scrolling="no" width="34.180000000000064" height="2.960000000000008"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 34.18px; height: 2.96px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1638px; top: 89px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_9239395" scrolling="no" width="34.180000000000064" height="2.960000000000008"></iframe>

The best thing that could happen to the US is getting actual Independents that represent people who align neither right now left wholly.
Also, yes- Immigration is hard. No one is entitled to live in the US just because they have a hard time in their home country. Otherwise our borders become the pressure release valve for every third-world shithole.

um... legally it depends on what's wrong in their home country that they're having a hard time. I know that Trump doesn't believe in those, or any other laws for that matter, but there they are. But Trump is happily killing even the people who are legally here, and stripping Americans of their citizenship and throwing them in camps under flimsy pretexts... Just redid this post because weird alpha numerics appeared in my post... how old is this forums software?
And I didn't put a smiley there, so... yeah, something's weird.

Yeah, this REALLY needs an update here. I feel like I am back in '98.
MOM GET OFF THE PHONE I WANNA CHECK AOL FOR RP!
But as to what makes someone's country a shithole? Opening the borders is treating a symptom. It's dabbing the dribbling blood from a wound and ignoring the wound itself. Treat the wound first, then there will be no oozing blood to dab up.

Vintage. I dig it.
Except more than I do actual 'vintage', which is just pretentiousness. "Hey bro, check out my vintage tee shirt" - guy that spends $55.00 on a T-shirt that looks like my Dad wore it to work on a rig for a year.
