"We're not a democracy, we're a representative republic" is stupid, but at least it proves that you're a complete novice in how politics actually work and what terms pertaining to the governance of states mean. To try to salvage something out of this, what's your definition of "democracy" whembly? Actually, because I'm probably going to be provocative once all of you have answered, without Googling, how would people in this thread define democracy?
On a side-note, responding to me pointing out that the rest of the industrialized world manages healthcare and college just fine with "we're not the rest of the world!" is the strangest defense of American Exceptionalism that I've ever seen, since it implicitly argues that the US is worse than the rest of the industrialized world. I mean, that's one type of exceptional by definition, but...

I'm like... duh, it was purposely meant to be undemocratic. "democracy" in the sense of 1 person = 1 vote... But you have to be more specific than that. My point, was that our system of governance was designed to mitigate the insanity that is a fullon direct democracy and the EC is part of that. Yeah, it's a term that can be cavalierly applied. Sigh. Cool... I guess today is bash America today. You are speaking from ignorance. You do not know what it is like here. So, how can you definitively opine your way is better? How can I have an opinion on your country? I don't live there. I'm sure I can move there, figure it out and be happy. Whembly, please explain to me how you reconcile the idea that the left is the political side that is overly emotional with the argument that it is impossible to make an argument about something that you have not experienced yourself. The only way to reconcile those two statements that I can see is if you claimed you were left-wing yourself.
Science makes theory about things the scientists haven't experienced all the time, by the way. That you think it impossible is not exactly supporting your position of the political right caring about facts.
