Yeah, there's a big attempt to say any criticism of Israel is antisemitism. Heck, the House of Representatives tried passing a bill or maybe it was an internal rules that explicitly said that it was antisemitism.

The boycot Israel movement has existed for a long time, protesting for universities to cut ties with Israel is just an extension of that. Are there elements of antisemitism in the boycot movement? Certainly, but as said above, everything against Israel is painted as antisemitism. It's not like the pro-Israel movement only contains perfect angels without biases/bigotry, but they have the better lobby in the West.
Recently a potential ICC ruling (on possible arrest warrants for Israeli officials such as Netanyahu) on a case from before the current war, has had Israelis declare the ICC to be antisemitic.

Campus protests have spread to the UK too, although so far there have been no brutal police reprisals set on them by university administrators.
Some universities have actually already agreed to divest assets associated with the arms trade and/or Israel.

www.npr.org/2024/05/07/1249710700/ilhan-omar-censureNebraska Republican brings resolution to censure Ilhan OmarCensure is a growing tactic by Republican politicians to silence speech they do not like in legislative bodies. This practice started at the state level, but is increasingly growing in popularity at all levels of government state, local, Federal.

Is that quote from her what they are censuring? I bet every member of the Nebraska legislature has said something more antisemitic in the last 4 years.

Is that quote from her what they are censuring? I bet every member of the Nebraska legislature has said something more antisemitic in the last 4 years. Yeah, I'm struggling to see how that quote can be read as antisemitic at all, especially given it could be read both ways (the "pro genocide jews" could refer to jews supporting Israel's actions, but pro-Israel supporters are also framing pro-Palestine supporters as pro genocide in support of Hamas). It is actually a really important message too. The most common form of antisemitism I've personally seen since October 7th is stuff along the lines of "Hitler was right to do the holocaust because the jews are vicious and doing their own genocide now". This is obviously abhorrent and racist and counterproductive, and I've called it out whenever I've encountered it. Israel isn't doing what it is doing in Gaza because jews are inherently prone to genocide, it is doing it because it is a radicalised ethnonationalist state built out of a colonial project. So we should be calling out antisemitism even if it is aimed at a jew who is pro genocide. I'd call someone out if they were being antisemitic to Ben Gvir*, because more racism isn't the solution. *As an example of someone who I think is fairly open about being in favour of Palestinian genocide.

Well, it's also coming from a Muslim, so of course it's anti-Semitic...

That shouldn't be news to anyone, but the US acknowledging it is a big deal. I wonder if they'll continue to veto everything at NATO?

It's almost as if having specific geographical distributions for elected officials with a FPTP system rather than electing them at-large is a system that inevitably is going to end up disenfranchising people.
