Yeah I saw that in the news earlier. Disgraceful.

And when you point out that maybe the state shouldn't me murdering its own citizens people inevitably pipe up with the insightful comment that "it's not murder if it's legal, it's punishment" as if the problem with murder is the illegality and not the killing. It's absolutely wild to me that a country so paranoid about government overreach as the US is perfectly fine with the government killing its own citizens.

See, it's only the bad people that are different from me that are getting killed, so they're okay with it...

"Might have been innocent" is really reaching in this case. There were some issues raised about the DNA evidence possibly being less than 100% reliable but there was still overwhelming evidence against him. He was caught with the victim's possessions, he was seen disposing of bloody clothing, etc. The appeals here are the kind of minimal-merit stuff that gets thrown at every death penalty case in a desperate last ditch attempt to delay the execution, if it was only life in prison at stake nobody would bother with such a weak argument. And the opposition has more to do with general opposition to the death penalty in all circumstances than a genuine reason to believe that this particular murderer was not guilty. It's absolutely wild to me that a country so paranoid about government overreach as the US is perfectly fine with the government killing its own citizens. See, you're forgetting that black people aren't citizens. The only government overreach is the state taking away the fun of lynching the guilty themselves.

Considering the DA thinks he was innocent, I wouldn't say there's overwhelming evidence against him.

Considering the DA thinks he was innocent, I wouldn't say there's overwhelming evidence against him. The DA does not think he is innocent. The DA thinks there is enough doubt to delay the execution while the appeal is resolved in court, which is a much lower standard (and the same thing that is said about virtually every death penalty case). Even the plea deal opponents of the execution were trying to arrange was only converting the death sentence to life in prison.

Funny thing is, he was 'seen' with bloody clothing by his girlfriend who he got the laptop he sold from...bloody Footprints and hair at the scene didn't match his. In no way is the evidence against him overwhelming.

I'm sure that will probably generate some impressive phantasms to somehow end up being pro lead poisoning.

That's hilarious, and I support it whilst it seeks to highlight the absurd nature of US politics with money and lack of privacy. However, the whole system absolutely should be illegal, or at least heavily restricted to low funding limits. Also, if you are resident in the US, please scroll to the end of the page and follow the instructions for getting money from Musk.
