That's awful, I'm seeing what's happening in Australia and super worried about our own upcoming forest fire season. We've had some of the warmest winter months on record up here. I saw that essentially an area the size of Ireland has been burned.

Anyone familiar with what is happening between Armenia and Azerbaijan? I'm sad because my favorite news source on geopolitics won't be able to cover it, due to... being headed by an Azerbaijani dude, that is free to cover any subject outside of Azerbaijan as he want, but who can't really criticize the government safely.

Cliff-notes version is that the Azerbaijan Soviet Republic got given a territory that's been inhabited by Armenians since forever by Stalin. Post-Soviet collapse the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan were based on the Soviet republics of the same names, leaving the ethnically Armenian province under Azerbaijan. The inhabitants didn't like this so they seceded and Armenia backed them, leading to a conflict that's been on again off again ever since.

What's the advantage that Azerbaijan get from this province though? Is it resources rich? Does it gives them maritime access? Or just because fuck you that's why?
