Pretty reprehensible, and I think actually utterly pointless.
The only positive that will come out of this is that, seeing how the Schumacher family and estate have gone on previously (and especially with respects to privacy) this will come down with the full weight of the law on the magazine. And it will be extremely well funded. Hopefully the tattered remains of the defendants will serve as a warning for others not to do likewise, and set a legal precedent in that case.
I assume the magazine editorial office was probably a pretty entertaining place this morning.

I think the trouble here may be that where AI is so new, there’s just no precedent or relevant enough law. All speculation on my behalf though and as ever, willing to become better educated.
The Magzine are likely to rely on “but we didn’t hide it was an AI interview”. To which the natural counter is “true, but did you sufficiently highlight it.
I don’t doubt it has caused considerable upset to Schumacher’s family. And I can definitely see the wider harm to person both living and dead if folk are allowed to essentially make up and publish “interviews”. Literally putting words in their mouth.
Distasteful and potentially illegal as it is, I still think it’s an interesting subject and application of the technology. But only interesting. By no means ethical.

It is just so utterly tasteless. It would be bad enough if the guy was dead and with no immediate family remaining, but considering what his family have been through this is just completely egregious.
It's also just not very smart, either for the 'journalists' that have run with it, and also for the editors that allowed it to happen. Judging how voracious the Schumacher family have been at throwing lawsuits at far, far less intrusive journalism, what did they honestly expect to happen? I think it's ultimately going to end up as an almost Darwin-award level example of journalistic suicide - and I'll be honest I think they deserve it.

True.
It reminds me of when I baffled some people on Dakka when it came to facial mapping in movies.
In short? Something like Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One I’m fine with. There was a solid narrative reason for Peter Cushing’s character to be present, and it was done with his family’s agreement and blessing.
But, around the same time, a Studio announced “a new James Dean movie” was moving into production. Which I considered exceptionally ghoulish and exploitative. Because there’s no bloody reason, other than using his name for advertising, such a thing to happen.

They just seem to be lurching from one poorly-thought-out catastrophe to another at the moment. The conversations with Stephen King (the author) have been particularly amusing.

I’m sure Elmu’s parents consider him a poorly-thought-out-catastrophe.

I'm not sure they think of him as anything other than the breeding number they achieved by his birth.

Well the 'pay for verification' is going as well as can be expected again.
One of the more amusing ones this morning is the Disney Junior UK account, which has somehow gained gold-tick verification and is busy posting a sequence of nonsense, swear-words and racial slurs. Of all of the companies, I can imagine Disney taking this extremely well..

So in another spectacular move, the allegedly self-made billionairre offered 1 million Dogecoin to anyone who could prove that the diamond mine he is reputed to have made his wealth from existed. Of course, Musk mentioned the mine candidly years ago with stories of how he visited it once and how he'd walk around New York with emeralds in his pockets, but even more spectacular is that Musks father (who owned the share of the mine) has come out to say that not only did it exist, but Elons entire career was funded by it: futurism.com/elon-musk-dad-emerald-mineI can't get my head around what he thought would happen. Did he think no-one would try? Was he planning on denying any evidence?

He got 5 more minutes in the spotlight, that might be all the motivation he needed.

Even when that spotlight is highlighting that he's a lying trust fund kid? I guess even that's a win for him.

Musk, like Trump, seems to be a firm believer in there being no such thing as bad publicity. So far it has worked pretty well for both...

Twitters death spiral is taking so long and being so chaotic that twitterisgoinggreat.com (my fav source of info) has given up after 300 articles. They are pointing people to twitter.com/bestofdyingtwit instead, but I'm finding that a bit harder to follow. Does anyone have any good sources? I can't stop watching the slow mo train wreck. I can't believe it's still going, either. It's a disaster and is still losing money.
