Aw, I was hoping for the holodeck, not proto-Borg probe modification.

Watched the attempted moon landing of the Odysseus lander the other week, and the whole thing was distinctly .. underwhelming.. I understand that this represents a private effort (both with the Space X launch vehicle and the lander), and the funding will have been a tiny percentage of previous government-funded attempts, but to not have some sort of live video feed of the landing (considering the size and power of camera technology now available) is a pretty poor show. Then the testing being cut short for resourcing reasons, and from what I have read part of the landing technology being left in a 'test mode' which meant it did not function correctly and the lander was forced to use its LADAR system for landing, resulting in the lander toppling over on landing. Perhaps my mistake was in watching this immediately after seeing the conclusion of For All Mankind season 3! Now looking for the next Starship launch test to restore some optimism..

After my post above yesterday, the Starship launch was a lot more heartening: www.space.com/spacex-starship-third-test-flight-launchThe booster stage and ship itself were lost (believe they were hoping to recover the former) but it effectively managed to get into space, which is a big step forward from the last attempt. All of the raptor engines fired etc and you can see the work they have done on trying to control the vehicle during descent with the hypersonic fins, it's apparently quite an evolution from the last vehicle. They used the starlink satellites to provide some quite stunning HD video and images throughout, well worth a watch. Think the 2026 plan for this to carry astronauts to the Moon as part of the Artemis missions is looking a little optimistic, although they do apparently have Starship 4 well on the route to being ready for launch. As this didn't cause such a massive explosion within the atmosphere this time, hopefully the licensing for the next launch will be a little faster to obtain.

Sucks to live in such a light-polluted area. Unless it hits the max estimated strength, there is no chance that it is visible in (most of) my country.

That is pretty cool. It is nuts how little they have to work with on these old computers. They probably have less computing power than a typical digital watch these days.
