So in terms of the music industry, business as usual, as we’ve had no significant break out genres in what feels like forever.

Some genuinely clever folk figured out commonalities in hit songs, and that’s now an industry adopted standard.

No more Punk. No more breaking out of the underground sound. Just formulaic shite and paid for hype.

That’s not entirely true. For example, TikTok allowed Lil Nas X to break out with a sort of new subgenre.

I think that's the key part there. The music industry is formulaic garbage just like it has always been. Fake bands pretending to play music written by record labels for maximum commercial appeal have been around since at least the 50s and have always had a disproportionate share of marketing, radio play, etc. Just like punk (at least initially) was defined by not being part of the industry you can still find good music as long as you are willing to go outside of the industry.

This guy had made up quotes from various locals, including the State Governor Mark Gordon. What an idiot.

One of my favorite parts of the story is that the Powell Tribune and Cody Enterprise are local rival papers and cities. The fact that the Tribune broke the story against the Enterprise adds a extra layer of local spice to an all ready head-scratching story.

Bank of America raises minimum hourly pay to $24, as tellers flee the industry

Bank of America is pledging to pay its bank tellers and other hourly workers at least $24 per hour starting in October.

The company says that this pay raise, from $23 per hour currently, will affect “thousands” of its 212,000 employees. The wage increase will particularly affect tellers and other customer-facing employees, such as call-center workers.

Several big banks have increased their starting pay for hourly workers in the past few years, in part due to the difficulty of attracting workers to these relatively unglamorous and non-remote-friendly jobs. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that banks will need to fill some 27,000 teller positions every year for the next decade.

I think the numbers are wildly optimistic as the banking industry is the leaders in automation of Tellers and Contact Center workers.

More likely no one is applying for the jobs.  No one is fleeing.
