I would love to read some specifics. Last I heard, May was trapped politically into offering the same nondeal at every negotiation and the EU had no pressure to give in to any of her demands and many reasons to give Britain a hard time. Does this mean May is courting the end of her career by offering a non insane deal?

It'll be unappealing for true believer brexiteers because it isn't suicidal. It's unappealing for remainers because it is worse than what we already have, for no real gain.

Wasn't the Brexit ref an advisory thing? Gauge the public mood kinda thing? It was advisory but then the tories and right wing press started touting it as the will of the people which could not be subverted without the gutter press calling those doing the "subverting" enemies of the people. As you can imagine this created an ideal environment for a sensible discussion of the difficulties of brexit and what the end deal might be which had been ignored in the referendum.

I don't think this brexit deal is a brexit at all.

I don't think this brexit deal is a brexit at all. ...am I misreading this? UK wouldn't have member voting rights, but would remain in the Eurozone and under the Euro Courts? o.O

So what's the story with the yellow jacket protest in Paris? Is it the "run of the mill" yearly protest? Or something more?
Was it really about the gas tax? Or just general apathy towards the government?

I think you meant animosity, not apathy, didn't you? In any case the movement has quite a lot of animosity toward Macron, and they are the opposite of apathetic. It's definitely bigger than the "run of the mill yearly protest", and it's pretty hard to read what it is exactly even for yours truly who currently live, and has lived his whole life, in France ^^. There is a pretty strong identity thing to it (not identity as in "French identity" or stuff like that, identity as in "I'm a yellow jacket so I must support the yellow jacket movement" or "I'm anti-yellow jacket"). But the exact demands and goals of the movement aren't clear to me. It did start about the gas tax but now it seems to be about general discontentment I guess? The movement is resolutely anti-Macron (except maybe a tiny minority among the movement but I'm not sure about this, don't quote me) but there are plenty of anti-Macron people who don't like the movement either.

I think you meant animosity, not apathy, didn't you? Yes...my bad. Going on very little sleep lately and my brain has been running fumes. I had some time to read up on it... initially, I was like: Where the fuck did everyone get the same sort of yellow vest! Then, I read that car owners are REQUIRED to have a yellow vest in their cars. Oh. Yeah, my read is that it isn't one "movement", except that they all hate Macron. It's like a more violent Tea Party that we've had in 2009/2010... if the elections are coming soon, the incumbents looks to get a spanking. Can a new election be called? Or, ya'll stuck with him till his term is over? Anywhoo... I spent 2 weeks in Paris in 2000 and loved my time there... wished I spent more time at the Louvre and around the countryside, and it's pretty shocking to me that this weekend the tower/louvre/local businesses are shutting down. That town thrives on visitors, so the local economy is going to take a hit.

It's like a more violent Tea Party that we've had in 2009/2010... Well I got the impression that the tea party was reliably right/far-right. Unlike this… thingy, which isn't clearly right or clearly left. if the elections are coming soon, the incumbents looks to get a spanking. Meh, with our political system, possible but not sure. Can a new election be called? Or, ya'll stuck with him till his term is over? Stuck with him I guess. Not totally impossible to get the president removed but no will from other elected politicians to do so. That town thrives on visitors, so the local economy is going to take a hit. Well, it's just one week-end, and not even during the holiday season, it'll be fine I guess.

Whut? TIL that: 1) that a ceremonial mace exists and 2) the House of Commons can’t pass laws without it as it’s a physical symbol of the crown’s authority... whereby, hypothetically, remove that authority from the chamber and Parliament’s lawmaking power goes with it. That's freaking awesome! Is there a Dr. Who/Monty Python/Mr. Bean episode that "borrows" this mace?
