How do!
See me? I love Etsy, me. Every payday I’ll be on there, sniffing out Pretty Things for my boudoir, cross stitch designs, silicon moulds for my resin casting and indeed whatever else it throws up.
I’m a diligent shopper too. Because I love Etsy as it gives me the knowledge and reassurance I’m buying from a small business, not some faceless tax dodging multinational. And I don’t just plump for the cheapest. Rather if something seems Awfully Cheap, I’ll do further checks and searches in case it’s someone selling knock-offs of another creators wares. I don’t stand for that sort of thing, and don’t want to encourage it with sales.
yet….I hate Etsy as a company. Not only are they fond of upping their percentage of sales, but now they’ve decided to start withholding seller’s balances. Source - www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-66201042
Now don’t get me wrong. Having a clause which allows for that isn’t in itself unreasonable. It can be a tool to shutdown down and lock out rogue traders, those taking orders and either not fulfilling, or sending wonky junk instead of what was advertised. So by being able to withhold funds where multiple complaints are received, you have a way to hurt dodgy bastards where it hurts. And one I’m afraid just has to trust that in the case of review bombing by malign actors, an internal investigation will turn up the truth of the matter and let the seller be.
But this? Maybe it’s a software malfunction and a widespread application is in error. Because if it’s “we’re doing it because we can, and we benefit from interest from the client money account*” that’s just not good enough, and is an abuse of what should be there for the protection of all parties.
*not that any business with a client money account should be reaping the interest. Indeed such accounts shouldn’t be generating any interest, at least under UK law.
The claim Etsy isn’t accepting any complaints is again Bullshit. But, to the best of my knowledge? It’s not a regulated business, so your only recourse would be a court claim. Which of course you can’t afford because Etsy have hold of your purse strings.
Booooo, Etsy. Boooooooooooo! Let my people go!
