I have to say, despite all the personal and professional crap going on in my life, I'm very thankful that I have a solution for each problem, and that these solutions are better than I could have ever expected.
I know that this is the wrong forum, and the wrong meme, but Thanks Malfred!

I am thankful that you were all a part of my life for as long as you were, even if it is just simple interaction online. Thanks. That and having a job and a roof over my head and for the few friends abroad that are still a part of my life.

My family is a shit-show and I am glad to be home with wife and child and not have to endure my passive-aggressive antisemetic/self-hating Jew inlaws, nor my self-centered bull-in-a-china-shop dad who thinks he can take over parenting (badly) my 5-year old, my increasingly deaf mother or my mewling, sycophantic failure-to-launch sister who's a fucking basket case, all of whom exhibited all their worst behaviors in the past week (inlaws visited last weekend, because they made it clear 15 years ago they'd rather have Thanksgiving with their friends than family, and we were at my parents' this week for Turkey day for the first time in years, because they're just as self-centered). Not the least because they've managed to alienate themselves from their only grandchild/nephew with their various behaviors (my son actually refused to say goodbye to my father-in-law, previously his favorite human on the earth, because 'he's mean'. Same routine with my family).
It's terribly frustrating and makes me sad. I look at other families who manage to get together, yell about something shallow like politics, watch football together, go to Black Friday sales to gawk at the hoi polloi and do it all without trying to mentally knife each other or prove that their own spawn are somehow beneath them.
And this is why we normally don't travel for the holidays. So. Fucking. Done.

We don't do thanksgiving in the uk. Which is good because I hate most things about my life. Every good thing in it is down to my own hard work so I'm thanking my fucking self.

Wow, I'm very sorry to hear that, Yair. Thanks. It was one of those 'gotta do it' moments to remember why we don't. It's a symptom of the holidays-everyone is usually better behaved, though still selfish and non-fun...

Do you think you're just sensitive to everyone's problems because of the work that you do, syr? And I think it's nice that your son is standing up for himself. Next step is for him to tell that guy what he thinks! Get him ready for next year? Yeah, I'm sorry to hear it, too.

Sometimes it really is better to be around friends for some holidays...

I'm with the Fury. I've no problems with immediate family on either side(except extended stays of my sister-in-law cause she's kind of a bitch at times), but I try to avoid extended family and all the drama that entails.
Sorry to hear about all the trials and tibulations, Yair.
Also thankful for you guys cause you're there when any of us need you.

Next step is for him to tell that guy what he thinks! Get him ready for next year? Yeah, I'm sorry to hear it, too. I'm probably more attuned to people's feelings (I don't solve problems nor feel that's what I'm supposed to do) and certainly more tired, but a) my dad's a rabbi as well, and b) so what? Why can't people just chill the fuck out? I find my family is really bad at that, and always has been. So I go into my own little mental cave and keep everything on the surface, and that was fine for a really long time, but this week, fucking with my kid pushed me over the edge. Is he perfect? No--he's also F I V E. Gorram... As my old boss used to say, friends are God's way of apologizing for your family. Amen!

As my old boss used to say, friends are God's way of apologizing for your family. Amen! Good quote. I am going to steal this.
