Edit: Today, it was announced that USDA is cutting it's study of honeybee colony collapse because 'financial reasons'. The fact that it includes some dire predictions about food production in the US suffering from climate change in preliminary studies are supposedly unrelated. Nobody cares about the survival of our ecosystem while there are rich people who can make yet more money. Once they have ALL the money we can save the world. There was a study yesterday that said that if we planted a trillion trees or a surface the size of the US we could cut our CO2 emissions by 2/3. Its actually a pretty decent idea if governments cared enough, planting trees is like the second most lazy option after doing fuck all.

It wasn't just that planting trees could work, but that it was also feasible to do so without major impact on agriculture.

My own grandfather, who was a very successful hydrological engineer, was refused entry to the US because he was supposed to be “a communist”. Time change, stupidity remains.

There was a story on the Washington Post a few weeks back about a Chinese rocket engineer in the 1940-50's who lived and worked in the US. They also pulled the communist card on him and basically bullied the man to leave the US. So even though he wasn't a communist he went back to Communist China and became very influential in setting up their ICBM programme. The moral of the story being, don't harass people based on their country of origin while these people would happily contribute to the US. Because you're going to lose their brilliance and they are going to apply it in their 'home'country that the US hates.
The warning being that the Trump admin is doing that right now with qualified people.

History is full to the brim of stories similar to this, in one way or the other. Remember the origins of the people who made the Manhattan project possible? Extra questions for you Whembly. - What are the reasons for why catch and release is bad? - What are the reasons for why CCWNATBN are bad?

Yeah, the story of American invention is basically immigrants. Trump mentioning Bell as an American inventor on the 4th was especially ironic in that context.

To be Fair, Trump still does not understand that Scotland is not part of the US.

That's the foundation of racism that is underpinning this entirely GOP-manufactured immigration crisis/humanitarian disaster. White immigration = good, desirable, backbone of American exceptionalism. Brown immigration = bad, criminal, welfare queens. It's base, ignorant, tribal racism driving this inhuman train. Americans making excuses for this are idiots, cowards, or both.

For some reason I just flashed on a Republican congressman demanding to know what 'Germany knows about building tanks'. Waiting for Whemb to demand what 'Jews know about Concentration Camps'.

Both sides now have Holocaust survivors saying these centers are/are not like concentration camps.

Both sides now have Holocaust survivors saying these centers are/are not like concentration camps. You're referring to Edward Mosberg right? He clearly doesn't seem to understand the situation at the border, namely when he said “The people on the border aren’t forced to be there — they go there on their own will." which is blatantly untrue. (maybe he should get nominated for his own Nobel Prize in Stupidity. Also "concentration camp" =/= "death camp")
