Not a surprise. Conspiracy theories about pedophiles in high offices ordering him killed will be plenty. Working at a federal prison, I know there will be lots of questions about how he managed to not be supervised after a previous attempt as a high profile inmate.

I saw the article on ABC an hour after they posted it. It was already full of conspiracy theories that the deep state did it on orders from the Clintons. They seem to forget Trump's connections to Epstein, but I guess Trump can't have done it because he is working with Mueller to fight people like Epstein (seriously the Trump campaign is promoting Qanon nowadays).

Committing suicide on suicide watch is a bad look for the government though. Hopefully his victims can get something out of suing his estate now.

That was originally reported, but now sources have told Reuters he was taken off not too long ago. Just more fodder for the conspiracies then.

It’s fairly hard to keep someone on suicide watch if they are no longer saying or showing suicidal things. Suicide watch in the federal system will be naked with a tear proof gown on a bare mattress, not something you can keep people in unless they are showing active threats.

High profile guys usually end up in SHU, and I highly doubt he would have been in general population. SHU guys usually get double-celled to minimize the risk of suicide, but I’m guessing it would be hard to find a cell mate for him and that many folks would gladly take the reputation as being someone who kicked one of the biggest pedophiles’ ass. So probably in a single cell. Normal rounds are once in a 30 minute window, no further than 40 minutes apart. So plenty of time to kill your self if you want.

I hope for the CO on that unit that he made his rounds when they review the camera.

Wasn't Epstein like the single highest-profile person in US custody at the time of his death, with a history of trying to commit suicide not two weeks ago?

Why the FUCK wasn't there someone just watching him 24/7? You don't have to have him in a straitjacket or anything like that, but shouldn't there be someone physically watching him at all times to prevent a travesty of justice like this?

He would be on the same rounds as every other inmate if he’s not actively saying or doing suicidal things, and most likely seen by a psychologist every day to evaluate him. Suicide watch is usually over after 72 hours if there are no more attempts if someone says the right things. Even I’m prison a high profile inmate is entitled to privacy.
