Also I didn't miss your question on V-dem but it's gonna take a while for me to respond.
As you can see, there's a metric shit-tonne of various variables that goes into classifying each party in the investigation. It'd take me more time than I'm willing to spend to dig into the nitty-gritty of the formulae used to calculate the final score in each category, mainly because I'm not all that good at working with formulae in this way. Regardless, the data is based on the (weighted) responses of scientists specializing in each given country, with a rigorous process to control for outliers. I won't pretend to be able to explain this either, it's all I can do to wrap my head around it myself. If you're more familiar with Gelman-Rubin diagnostic values than I am or want to read up in your spare time feel free, I might learn something too.
Regardless, the cliff-notes version is that a bunch (60) of independent experts (as in, independent from each other and V-dem) on the US have coded the Democratic and Republican party and found that the result is that the Republican party has moved sharply towards illiberalism since the year 2000. The project does this to parties all over the world, giving a means of comparing the direction parties have moved across countries.

Hmmph... didn't see that one before. I saw youtubes of the guys bitching at Trump and spew the usual anarchist crap (even had that arachist flag in his background). But, hey, GLAD that Trump's FBI found these guys and put a stop to it.
Well, when you tell the FBI you're plotting illegal acts, it's not a high bar to clear that you then charge them with plotting to commit crimes.
And I'm sure you didn't, otherwise you'd know that the guy with the anarchist flag in the back ground was actually trying to set it up as a false flag operation, per their plan. Since it was to happen on election day, they were gambling that the fact they were in fact pro Trump wouldn't come out until after the voting was over.

I hadn't forgotten you, still trying to absorb this as I find all of it fascinating. I deal with data modeling all the time in the healthcare sphere so, this is sorta in my wheelhouse. I'm trying to find how these experts feed the data that V-dem uses to extrapolate their findings... and yes, all of this is in the weeds.

I saw that earlier. Kind of amusing on the back of that interview where G-Baby went off on a Fox Business (who sucks Trump's dick even harder than vanilla Fox) host who compared him to Chris Steele. And I'm just assuming everyone heard Tucker's wonderful bit about how he totally had smoking gun evidence on Hunter Biden but it totes went missing in the mail but don't worry they found it and they'll be showing everyone the absolute proof soon. That story might actually be less believable than the laptop one and that's a feat worthy of recognition.
Probably best to expect Election night bullshit. PA was already looking like it might be a bit of a shit show and we've now had at least three counties say they won't even be able to start pre-canvassing till the day after election day due to lack of staff. One could spin a yarn about how the GOP legislature basically told election officials to fuck off over the summer (followed by telling them to fuck off when they asked to be able to start canvassing ballots before election day, cause there's hundreds of thousands just sitting in boxes now) when they said they didn't have enough staff, but what's the point?

Aside from this, there's also the constant tinkering with the census despite judicial orders, and the refusal of several mid-level executive officers to stop exercising their authority despite the court ruling they are not legal appointees. In a Trump administration it's all gotten relatively little attention because they're so much else to report on, but I can't help but wonder what will come of the constant destruction of norms, precedents, and rule of law will taste bitter in the long run.

How does the USA (or any democracy, for that matter) continue when a large portion of the political players are no longer acting in good faith?
When half the lawmakers are flouting the rule of law, what then? How does the US move forward?

At the risk of sounding like Liberty Prime, democracy is non-negotiable.

Win or lose, this country isn't going to be in a good place after next week. Trump wins, and the people who do things like that will feel vindicated and justified in continuing to act like that. Trump loses, and those same people will believe they didn't do enough.

Here is my prediction;
The people who claimed, that the Left refused to accept the result of the election in '16......will refuse to accept the result of the election in '20.
