I worry that this might just be a preview for inauguration day. There may very well be an attempt on Biden's life. I don't think anything could surprise me now. At the very least, today's actions will put the secret service and other agencies in high alert for such things in the near future. Two thoughts;
What a fucking a joke. Trumptards really are fucking stupid. They breach the capitol, cause all this fuss, and for what? They wandered around aimlessly, took selfies, and acted like they were having a party. Calling this an insurrection is almost insulting. This was just a violent form of tourism and soft-ball anarchy.
I certainly agree that, looking back at it today, they were just a bunch of stupid MAGA tourists. How dumb can you be to smile for a camera while walking off with a podium, or sitting at Pelosi's desk with your mask off? My concern is now everyone knows that a bunch of stupid MAGA tourists can actually do this much. I'm just a dumb gamer, but even I'm thinking about how some organized terrorist/militia group is going to look at this and get ideas about hiding themselves in the next protest in order to actually do something real. Fortunately, there are people smarter than I who are paid to plan for and prevent that stuff.

So far at least the guy stealing the lectern was IDed, his Wife’s business IDed, a review left on it with the picture of him stealing the lectern, and her rating tanked from 5 stars to 1.5 overnight.

The whole "oh but they didn't do anything violent so it's OK" argument is fucking stupid and I wish it'd die (leaving aside the fact that breaking windows to get into a building you're not allowed in is inherently violent). Threats are illegal for a reason. You'd have to be a complete idiot to argue with a straight face that storming the Capitol wasn't an attempt to coerce the Senate into invalidating the election. Implied violence is still using violence as a tool.

I'm just amazed at the other side of this. The side that remembers what happened in Armenia over the summer, or Russia in 91, or really any country where the people actually overthrew their government. In comparison, these people are just a bunch of moronic jackasses. They had no goals. They had no purpose. They were there to be there. To accumulate an 'experience.' That's how cheap America is to these 'proud' 'patriots'. It's a thousand times worse than actually being an extremist nutjob. At least the extremist nutjob believes in something. This lot was just a bunch of tourists who punched their way in rather than pay an entrance fee and wait in line.
That legislator should be arrested, Trump should be impeached despite being on the way out anyway (he won't be), and anyone dumb enough to engage in this pathetic display of vanity at the expense of the country should be fined. No arrested. Not charged. They're not fucking worth it.
Fine them a couple k and forget their names. They're not worth remembering on an individual level. They're faithless little toddlers wrapping themselves in the flag and pretending to believe in something. It's pathetic.

I certainly agree that what happened yesterday was most definitely not "ok". It's just that, looking back at it today, it is just baffling to realize just how really, truly dumb those people are. Real damage could have been done. Lots of people could have been killed. The fact that didn't happen isn't because the protesters were peaceful, nonviolent, good guys, or whatever. It's because they were just really stupidly incompetent at what they were doing. That's why I fear what might happen next time, when some people with brains may decide to hide in the crowd of the brainless.

I am staggered, but not surprised, how this can be described as anything other than;
"Incited By Out-Going President, And Supported By Religious Fundamentalist Political Party, Terrorists Attack The Capitol In Attempt To Overthrow Democratic Election"

The main response from the right wing online and in the media seems to either be that it was fine or that BoTh SiDeS aRe EqUaLlY bAd, so it can't be that bad.

Chuck Schumer has issued an ultimatum.
Either Pence and the Cabinet invoke the 25th Amendment* and remove Trump from office or Democrats will convene the House and draw up articles of impeachment.
We'll see if there's follow through. As cheap as it would be, I still think Trump's impeachment would be an important and symbolic rebuke that's worth having. I'm just skeptical it'll actually happen.
*(I actually don't think they constitutionally can because many of Trump's cabinet are not confirmed by the senate)

Doesn't everyone remember when dems tried to impeach trump? It's the same thing basically.
(Yes, this is a real argument some of them have made)

I wonder if they will try to make a case out of what happened yesterday, once he is out of office.

I think the notion that Trump can be quietly ignored once he leaves office has been killed in its crib.
It is no longer realistic to pretend that the country can happily pretend Trump is out and thus irrelevant.

The fact that people still give him money for this and his own ego will mean he keeps grifting off this until he is dead or forcibly stopped. Donnie Jr probably needs to be tackled too.
Another thought that crossed my mind, how messed up would it be if the police officer that shot the Trump supporter gets fired (now suspended), while so many officers involved in questionable shootings of black people never get suspended or even fired.
