Let's be frank. We already know GOP politicians were in on it. The real question is how far they thought things would go and what they honestly expected to gain. I really doubt many of them expected an actual assault on the building. Republicans are too lacking in foresight for that. I do think they recklessly helped organize and rile a mob that could only end in one way, and it seems like most will never really suffer for it. At worst they get some bad PR.
In other news, Pence firmly refuses to use the 25th Amendment. Not really surprised. I'm skeptical it could be used anyway with the current cabinet. There's also something to be said that if Congress wants Trump gone, Congress should get rid of him and not pass the buck to the VP and the Cabinet. The 25th Amendment, while it technically could be used this way, wasn't explicitly designed for this situation and while Republicans clearly don't care about precedent issues I don't think that means no one else should. If Pelosi and Democrats want Trump removed they should just impeach him. We'll see if they follow through tomorrow, then it'll be a question of what McConnell and Schumer do.

Apparently McConnell is pissed, according to 'sources.' I'll believe it when he votes to convict and even then he's not going to get much credit for it. Yeah this smacks of the "oh man in private they're totally not on board with him" while they vote in lockstep 98% of the time

Hatoflords,
Regarding Pence and the 25th, I think it was just a vain hope that finally, after all these years of referring to Pence and the Cabinet as the "adults in the room" to manage Trump's excesses, they would actually stand up and do some adulting. Instead, they're just resigning their positions and slinking off to the shadows.

I think it was more of a We tried everything else first sort of deal before they went back to impeachment.

I’ve seen a few stories where it sounds like an inside job. Stuff like skipping a dude’s official office where his name is on the door and going to the out of the way room where he actually spends more of his time. The mob heading straight to Pelosi’s back office thru a lot of twisting hallways that’s on the tours. Ect.

How do you guys think this increasing radicalization of conservatives will affect RITides board? Will he have to give full access to terrorist sympathizers openly spouting false narratives in order to keep it from becoming a “leftist echo chamber”?

Ahah will this board even exist, really? Anyway I found Despic on Twitter:
"This abusive father beats his kids. I solved the situation by getting him fired from his job. He still beats his kids, but now his kids are starving too. I am a great moral champion! This work!" Yeah sure, if you wanted to make the Iranian people's plight worse, it worked!

Yeah sure, if you wanted to make the Iranian people's plight worse, it worked! As a father myself, I cannot interfere in the way the abusive father raises his kids. All I can do is ensure the home life of his kids is so miserable, so desperate and deprived, that they might take matters into their own hands and beat him down and hang him from the tree in their yard. Many of his kids will surely die in the process. Not my problem.

They got tours of the capitol, paper plans of the layout, specific areas being pointed out, and even help in organizing their coup from Congresscretins Paul Gosar, Mo Brooks, and Andy Biggs. And of course, that's not counting the refusals of assistance or higher-ups slowing down the deployment of the national guard.

They will need a test to prevent the echo chamber. Being a conservative seems to operate on the Highlander principle, so we should have them face off in debates to the death (of their forum accounts) to make sure they are ideologically pure enough to be right wing, and not secret lefties/RINOs watching Fox News.

Maximum pressure has worked tremendously well to reinforce the position of the hardliners and has actually strengthened their position in Iraq, to the detriment of the US. Well, at least the Trump admin can fondly remember its success in North Korea, right?

I am still flabbergasted at that post on Dakka from that guy saying Fox News isn't right wing. That level of extremism is still baffling. I mean, I get that it's out there, we just saw the insurrection happen, but to see it in my personal sphere in a gaming forum is still jarring. And, speaking of Pompeo, I read that Luxembourg supposedly cancelled planned meetings with him this week.

I’m not surprised. We’ve been seeing more and more posts of that type on Dakka for a while now. The mods have (inadvertently?) helped to move the Overton window by allowing the heckler’s veto. Posting extremist/edge lord bullshit: no action. Calling out bullshit: thread locked.
