I'd like to know what is so significant about the name 'Tannhauser' that we had two different ones on a board of less than 40 members The only things that spring to mind are references to Blade Runner, that Weird War 2 boardgame, and an opera by Wagner. Wagner the famous antisemite. Seems like the opera must be really, really good or they must be referencing Blade Runner? |

Oh, I can't believe I forgot maybe the most famous Blade Runner quote. On a forum full of nerds, it's probably a reference to Tannhauser Gate.

Tannhäuser und der Sängerkrieg auf Wartburg is a Wagner opera. The "Tannhäuser Gate" is referenced in the famous soliloquy from Blade Runner. Tannhäuser was also an obscure German poet in the 1200s. Given the link to SciFi, I'm inclined to guess it's the second. EDIT: Wow, that moved fast.

IMO, not really. Also, I'm sure no one can guess what my dakka name is. I’m medium-sure that Prof Tannhauser is Matt Swain, but I could just be associating them because they both post like teenagers. My first thought was Peregrine just cause of the apparent love of abrasiveness but I honestly don't think Peregrine knows about ETC and wouldn't have an account there. |

Looking over the other Wasteland ETC forums and its giving off a distinct feeling of a ship burning down to the waterline, slowly drifting out of control.
If we're guessing Dakka users, I would like to posit that Manchu has alternative accounts on Dakka, his attitudes towards moderation and his own behaviour seem to explain why certain parts of the boards (such as geek media) are still such shitholes of poop flinging monkeys.
Probably not though, but it would be funny if it turned out to be true.
