I’d be moving out, too, if I could. Things are likely to get scary again in the US in about 4 years, and it seems the party that isn’t protofascist has not learned any lessons from the last time.

That's what is shocking me. What kind of dense motherfuckers do you have to be to think "okay let's be bipartisan with these people now, they'll accept that they had their attempt at going too far, now they'll pull back and be sensible". It's fucking dumb.
Also, with all the voter legislation being pushed through in several states, fuck all chance of Dems winning them again. So they're really cooked.

I think the majority of people will take it seriously, but the minority who do not will drag discussions down consistently. I also think that while some people are up to have their views challenged and changed, some do not and just want to shitpost basically. QAR and grey have both proven that pretty well, as has Manchu on certain subjects. Beyond specific people, dakka alone has proven it only takes one or two people to ruin any sort of discussion on a topic. Thank you for clarifying. That's fair. I think maybe part of the issue is what is considered a shitpost. There are some posts that almost everyone will agree are shitposts, but there seem to be some posts where some of the members think it's just a shitpost and some of the members think it's perhaps distasteful or controversial, but a mostly sincerely held opinion perhaps worthy of discussion and not a shitpost per se. And then that leads to some members trying to engage and discuss in good faith and other members calling for bans, suspensions, or other disciplinary action. |

While the GQP is promoting their right-wing ideals on nazi-rune stages while worshipping a golden idol of their white savior, Germany has gone ahead and placed the AfD on the official watchlist of extremist groups. I've been slowly checking out of US politics, I don't think there is much chance of salvaging what is left of our country here. I did get my new employment contract signed for my new job in Germany, so we are moving in September. At this point, it seems like that is the best option for my family. Sorry to hear you feel that way dusa. You're a great American and it's too bad for the USA that you're leaving. That being said, Germany is a great place to be and I wish the best for you and your family. |
