I dunno, a mod that doesn't care compared to a mod that really seems like he'd just ban you if you called him out. Neither is a winner, but one is less bad I think

I wanted to give RITides more credit, but his determination to bring in more conservatives so that allllll opinions could be heard made me wonder if he is either so naive as to be unaware what would happen or if he’s just very sympathetic to many (hopefully unbeknownst to him) bigoted lines of thought.

Neither is a great look.

Who would join? I assume most posters feel too “biased” against what RITides wants to make good mods there. What kind of person is posting on that board who hasn’t already come down hard either for or against the bigotry?

Yeah I dunno man. Given the chances he has had from my glances here and there to step down on some language... I hope he isn't trying to recruit any transgender folk to get their viewpoints too. Because one look in those gender threads and all the sanctioned language and ideas being thrown about... I wouldn't be alright with that if I was them.

Them entering that thread, seeing QAR and Grey spouting their shit and telling them to get fucked for saying they either don't exist or are sick, would get them more of a warning than the bigoted language did to start. I really don't get it

I considered volunteering for the job, but I don't think it's going to be a good investment of my time and mental health. It's bad enough having to skip over a few responses in there, never mind actually having to examine those particular world views for something that is 'actionable' as opposed to just 'objectively awful'

Yeah the trans and immigration threads are both pretty bad. And entirely due to the same two posters.

The problem with allowing bigotry to be posted is that once you get a reputation for being place where people can be bigots, more bigots turn up. Allowing bigotry to try and prevent an echo chamber just creates an echo chamber of bigotry.

Why bother being a mod? A few cries of "echo chamber" and RiTides will fold like a House of Cards headlined by Kevin Spacey.

You can see it happening even now. Would Prof Tanhauser have been banned if they had loudly proclaimed to be 'conservative'? What they said was just as egregious as Grey, they just worded it too obviously.

Saying people only have economic value (refugees/poor/sick people?) or that being transgender is a mental illness (suicide and violence rates?) is just a more polite version of saying people deserve to freeze to death.

On one hand, I agree. On the other, if he does so I don't think RiTides would like that, so I doubt it would happen.

Plus, it means he'd have remove me from his ignore list in the first place.

I don’t think we have to worry about RITides recruiting any trans people or LGBT members. He hasn’t gone recruiting for more women or minorities, either, nor for more Europeans or others from industrialized nations who would view US politics in any way unfavorable to conservatives. He only went recruiting for conservatives. Also, “echo chamber” has been a pretty obvious euphemism since the beginning. Like cancel culture, the term is only used as a pejorative against people who don’t stand for bigotry or antisocial philosophies.

Everybody knows there were no bigots or racists before leftists started accusing people as such. Clearly they are the true and real cause of bigotry. Long gone are the good old values of respect and decency towards our fellow man.

Edit: wow, were going at the transgender thread for a FOURTH time? Unbelievable, perhaps this time we won't have to be bored to death by pages of discussion about how language has to remain static throughout the millennia and how German could never change to adopt gender neutral language. Not adapting is why its so hard to talk about computers or mobile phones in Germany, they didn't exist in the way back days.
