I'm horrified that RiTides can even consider someone like this a decent moderator and actually put his thumb on the scale to get him in. If you want to have mods you like, why even bother with elections.

I'm not sure that the scale was necessarily tilted towards GBT. Tyranid Horde certainly leaned a bit further on the "allow discussion" axis than my stance so it is possible that if they were not in the race then more people who voted for TH might have voted for GBT than for me.
However, as far as I am aware and I may have just missed them, I don't think the actual vote numbers for the runoff were posted anywhere?

FWIW I PMd RiTides before the election was done and pointed out that having a three-way competition for one spot is a horrible idea and that he should make it a two-round á la the French election system precisely to avoid this kind of shitshow, explicitly saying that even though I'd never vote for GBT it'd not be fair for him either if he'd lost because of, essentially, a spoiler candidate.

TH described himself as left leaning and said this: "What I like in a debate are properly cited arguments and an openness for debate and a change of opinion when faced with overwhelming evidence, something a few people have a hard time doing on this forum and resort to name calling, bullying tactics and baseless arguments." To me, that more clearly puts him in your corner. Nevertheless, the manner in which the run off was resolved will now forever leave doubt regarding preference and a split vote. The results were as follows: GreatBigTree - 13 Too Hot To Trot - 12 Tyranid Horde - 8 Why wasn't there a run off of the run off? TH got pulled in while 2 votes behind, so why was 1 vote enough for a decider this time? Besides, Herzlos, Mad Doc and me weren't allowed to vote anymore, even though we're obviously not sock puppets. |

I don't think that's fair, I think it's more likely he just didn't realize how much effort that has to go into making a solid voting system.

This is true, but on the other hand he has so many examples of how to do it. I don't think I've ever seen a system were a run off has 3 candidates, certainly not in the US where RiTides originates. |
