A true masterpiece of insult trolling that everyone here should aspire to.

You kind of need to see the whole segment for context. I'll include it here. Long story short, Bob, this scummy CEO did scummy things, even got many of his miners killed cutting corners, and one employee returned his pitiful bonus check with the words "Eat shit, Bob." When John Oliver covered it years ago, Bob hit him and HBO with a SLAPP suit. Bob finally dropped the suit, and this is Oliver's follow up segment.

Last Week Tonight is such a great show, with this being a prime example. I hope Oliver gets many more seasons.

I have no idea what this is about. It's about a man who hates Tom Hanks, sold drugs to Bill Cosby, and is literally the Zodiac Killer obviously. But more seriously, Inquisitor summed it up pretty good. This is a 2.5-part story, beginning with Episode One: The Legal Menace. John Oliver does an episode on the coal industry in 2017, with a special focus on Bob Murray, CEO of Murray Energy - a coal baron who's a real scummy piece of work to his employees, and has a known nasty habit of suing the pants off anyone who criticizes him. Unsurprisingly, Bob Murray sued. Apparently being referred to as a 'geriatric Dr. Evil' caused him untold misery and suffering, more than learning that a bunch of employees had died in a collapse caused by his unsafe mining practices. In 2018, the lawsuit was thrown out of court by a judge. Murray promptly appealed to the Supreme Court in West Virginia - a state neither Murray nor Oliver live in, nor does Murray Energy have any business - simply because WV has no anti-SLAPP laws. This caused the suit to linger until last month, when Murray finally withdrew the suit entirely. This was undoubtedly unrelated to his impending bankruptcy. Oliver was then free to announce this, along with an entire episode about the practice of punitive SLAPP suits - unsuprisingly something Donald Trump loves doing to his critics as well.
