Didn’t notice it then either, first I’m hearing of it.

I think the way Twitter is (was?) set up it meant that whilst various components in various regions might fail, it's unlikely the whole site would go down. Of course that relied on pesky things like infrastructure, facilities and staff. So it may be that the login system for Europe fails one day, or the comments section in Asia, or whatever. It seems to have gotten less reliable since Musk, I haven't found any statistics on it though. downdetector.co.uk/status/twitter/ shows a fairly constant amount of outage reports over the last 24 hours.

There have been a hell of a lot more 'blips' in recent months. Things like not being able to upload images (which was the case for me for about 2 weeks, great fun with the hobby groups) and links not working.
Anyway - enough of that place, thanks to Adurot I am now on Bluesky, and even though it has a bit of a way to go, my God is it like stepping out of a sewer and being bathed in sunshine. There is just so much less shit.

Why leave one tech billionaire walled garden for another when you can set up your own Mastodon account!

I have tried Mastadon, and did try and persist for a while, but just can't get on with it. The App is next to useless, and the user experience is only marginally better through an internet browser. Also I mostly use social media to follow my hobbies, and Mastadon is notably worse for that than any of the other social media. I'm quite into retro video-gaming for example, and it just replaced the Twitter community's inexplicable penchant for photos of type-2 diabetes-inducing food with people just posting "trans rights!" every two days. I am not interested in either of those things.

I've never used the app (any app, no twitter app either), and the community part is a tricky chicken-and-egg problem. But I haven't seen any "trans right!" or food post here: retrogaming.social/public/local . Mostly retrogaming stuff, and pictures of dogs.

So a charge now for signing up to Twitter, and being able to post/re-post. That's truly the final nail in the coffin of the platform, surely. And it just means you are going to have an overwhelming number of bots, for whom a $1 fee will give them excellent reach for the money.
TBH I have completely stopped using it now. The hiding of newspaper headlines killed it for me, as one of the main reasons I still used the platform was for news articles.

I’m still using it to follow two artists who haven’t given up and moved to BlueSky yet like all the others. Stopped checking the trending stuff, just the Following tab.

I can't see them going ahead with it, even a $1 signup fee will see legitimate new signups drop off a cliff, and without any readers there'll be no point in the publishers being there either.
But then who knows what he's playing at.

Facebook is on the wonk, again. Showing me nothing but posts from more than a week ago, and “suggested for you” drivel.
