I do wonder if he only founded ETC as a right wing echo chamber. But when non-lunatic posters joined and brought a lot of irrefutable facts, that’s when Teddy Was Thrown From The Pram? I don't think he wanted a right wing echo chamber per se, but he certainly seemed to want somewhere that the right wing was free to talk whilst pretending to meet in the middle with the left. His reluctance to moderate even the worst of the abuse would confirm it.

Considering that his definition of free speech is that right-wing people are allowed to say anything they want but left wing people using their free speech to criticize the right-wing speech is beyond the pale and engaging in cancel culture...

When he threw a massive rage fit about people criticizing his buddy at Dreamforge over his comments on the world's lamest coup attempt. He had a whole thing about "cancel culture", "heckler's veto", etc, and insisting that any criticism of "off topic" things must not be tolerated. And then he literally destroyed a discussion forum because he didn't like the things people were saying there.

So Ritides was mad they were canceling his friend on dakka where politics is banned? Did dreamforge make political statements on dakka or did others bring it there and try to harm this man’s livelihood? There’s a really important distinction here that could make ritides completely right.

When a man uses the social media of his livelihood to espouse political opinions, maybe they should start the finger pointing by looking for the closest mirror.

My livelihood is likely to affected if I start spouting stupid crap in public- I could lose my license to practice and be out of a job I studied for 5 years to do. I don't see why a shop owner should be held to some kind of different standard than anyone else making a public statement where their action (speech) is free of any consequences (people choosing not to purchase their product).

In my career, I can do Prison Time if I carelessly flap my gums. Up to 5 years, and an unlimited fine.

I love how someone using their freedom of speech to criticize something that someone else said/did and saying that they won't spend money on their store because of what they said (You know, freedom of association) is grounds for destroying something that someone else controls to keep them from being able to use their freedom of speech.

There’s a really important distinction here that could make ritides completely right. Mark used the Dreamforge FB page to promote the coup and associated election lies. He is the one who made his company political. There are plenty of creators who have “politics” they keep to themselves—Dreamforge wasn’t one of them. Bringing up a company’s statements, including admitting they used their money to fund fringe politicians and movements, is perfectly valid. People want to know if they are buying from a Nestle or a Chic-fil-A. People who want to stop buying GW products because of their “you will not be missed” statement should also be allowed to state why they aren’t buying any more.

So let me get this straight: censorship is ok as long as it's censoring people who are "cancelling" someone? Saying critical things about a person that might damage their business is not acceptable free speech?
