I mean, doesn't the P in GOP stand for projection? After all, it's usually the people screaming loudest about the LGBT+ community being pedophiles that end up being exposed as pedophiles themselves. It seems like dozens of priests and republicans get caught every week touching kids.

I think it's more likely to be used as a kind of sports equivalent to SWATing, where if someone beats you or your daughter at any sports, you accuse them of being trans (because how else would they be the better athlete?) and get them sexually assaulted.


Not that I think the genitals of an athlete matters, but there really should be some kind of process around it and penalties for abusing the process.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A federal judge has permanently blocked the country's first law banning gender-affirming care for minors, signaling a victory for LGBTQ advocates.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge James Moody Jr. on Tuesday says the state of Arkansas violated several sections of the U.S. Constitution when it banned all gender-affirming treatments for people under 18. The 80-page ruling says depriving trans minors of treatments like hormone therapy would cause them irreparable harm, and that delaying care until adulthood would force teens to go through changes inconsistent with their gender identity.

The verdict comes after an eight-day trial in December, where several of the state's witnesses admitted they didn't have experience treating transgender teens, and offered no evidence to dispute decades of scientific research.

"Rather than protecting children or safeguarding medical ethics, the evidence showed that the prohibited medical care improves the mental health and well-being of patients and that, by prohibiting it, the State undermined the interests it claims to be advancing," the ruling reads. "The testimony of well-credentialed experts, doctors who provide gender-affirming medical care in Arkansas, and families that rely on that care directly refutes any claim by the State that the Act advances an interest in protecting children."

Pretty damning stuff......

I'm not sure that this ruling would be upheld on appeal, especially at the Supreme Court level.

The claims made on the First Amendment I don't think will hold as I believe courts have upheld the requirements for abortion providers to provide false information to their patients.  In addition, physicians can be prevented from using/providing 'wrong' information or 'unproven' treatments to patents.  Not saying that this is either, but physician professional speech can and has been regulated.  Same as Lawyers or other professionals.  

Due process - Saying that it interferes with a parent's having the only say for a child's medical care I don't think will hold up either.  If the parent thinks that rattlesnake venom will cure a child's illness, they still can't use that on the child as it would endanger the child and would technically be a form of abuse.  Again, not saying that this is, but the precedent is out there.  Treatment can be withheld for 'Religious' reasons, but I this wouldn't qualify as 'religious' in any case and would be requiring treatments rather than withholding, which is a different animal.

The only one that might hold is the sex-based discrimination claim, but that's not a constitutional claim and I'm not sure the current Supreme Court would rule the same way as the previous Supreme Court did.

A federal judge has temporarily blocked the enforcement of a new Florida law aimed at prohibiting children from attending drag shows after a popular burger restaurant that hosts the shows sued the state of Florida and its governor, Ron DeSantis.

U.S. District Judge Gregory Presnell issued a preliminary injunction on Saturday in response to the lawsuit filed last month by Hamburger Mary's. The Orlando restaurant's owners allege in the suit that their First Amendment rights were violated after DeSantis signed Senate Bill 1438 into law. The measure would prohibit admitting children to certain drag show performances.

"This statute is specifically designed to suppress the speech of drag queen performers," Presnell wrote. "In the words of the bill's sponsor in the House, State Representative Randy Fine: '...HB 1423...will protect our children by ending the gateway propaganda to this evil – 'Drag Queen Story Time.' "

Huh.
