I guess this needs its own thread, since I didn't see it having its own thread.
In the US, the Public Education sector has been under attack for a long time. It is one of those areas where everyone feels like they are an expert, because they went to school once. However, most people have no idea how it all actually works, but everyone has an opinion. Some of the reformers have good intentions, and some of them do not.
We have seen a lot of efforts lately by Republicans, Tories and Conservatives especially to undermine the institution and very idea of Public Education. This can be seen from pre-school, Elementary, and all the way through Higher Ed such as University and College.
Previous attacks included but were not limited to:
- School Voucher programs
- Undermining free lunches at public schools
- Parental Rights and CRT
- Book banning
- Anti-LGBT Efforts and Trans-Bathroom Bills
- Funding measures
The latest effort is to weaponize the outrage du jour, anti-Semitism in order to undermine the credibility of Public Schools.

Republicans and K-12 school leaders clash over handling of antisemitism
On Wednesday, Republican lawmakers expanded their fight over antisemitism in education, with mixed results.
Members of the House Education Committee questioned leaders from three K-12 public school districts over the handling of recent incidents that some lawmakers say have left Jewish students feeling unwelcome and unsafe.
Republicans, who control the House and called the hearing, were clearly hoping for the kind of headline moments they've scored in similar hearings with elite college presidents. In one of those hearings, presidents struggled to answer questions about antisemitism. Another hearing, focused on Columbia University, helped spark a wave of protests on campuses around the country.
