Joe "Hey! At least I'm not Trump!" Biden and Kamala "Ticks THREE boxes" Harris. Well, hopefully they win and she uses her experience and connections as a DA and AG to really bring the corruption in the GOP to justice.

I hope not. She's "tough on crime" which usually means "throw people in jail for minor offenses." Maybe she's changed, but I suspect not. Going the tough on crime route in 2024 seems like a recipe for not making it past the primary.

People are tired of the war on crime, and being "tough on crime" because it's just an excuse to systematically oppress minorities. Which is ironic because that's one of the major reasons Biden chose Harris.

Yeah, for sure. People are tired of the war on crime, and being "tough on crime" because it's just an excuse to systematically oppress minorities. Which is ironic because that's one of the major reasons Biden chose Harris. To be fair, as bad as it sounds, I think the three major reasons were African American (because BLM protests have been so big and the voting demographic is very consistent, she is Asian American too, but I think hardly anyone pays attention to that), woman (this was to be expected given that its been (white) men only for far too long) and political experience. Where those three intersect she is the most visible and has the most experience (and her donor connections help). If Biden wanted to be tough on crime there were other options, even one that ticked two of the three boxes. But this pick was focus grouped to hell and back for maximum efficiency/minimal waves. To give off the tough on crime vibe in today's political climate' given recent actions of the federal government, is only going to lose you votes. Law and order/tough on crime seems like a stance that will only do well in the Republican party anymore and Harris won't fit there for obvious reasons. Its good that she is breaking in for those demographics, even if the underlying reason might be cynical. Just when were trying to get over #Obamagate youre pitching #Harrisgate? They're going to cry persecution regardless. May as well actually persecute the guilty parties. You mean organize a witch hunt of the most repressed group in America, rich old white men! Well at least we might see Whembly again. Would like to hear what he has to say on why the party won't kick out the QAnon believer (and all-round super bigot) that is now their almost guaranteed House election winner in Georgia.

I'm still alive. Took a break due to life as my father succumbed to cancer recently and dealing with family/estates.
I've only paid cursory glance to this thread, primarily on my phone these last few months. Sorry for not chiming in guys. Work is slowing down a weee bit so you'll see me more.
We have crazies in every party. Dunno why you want me to comment on this as I'm not a GA voter nor in the GOP leadership. If I had the means, I wouldn't have placed her on that ticket.
As for the news of the day, Kamala as VP eh?
This is a weird pick and not sure if the "safe" pick. I figured Susan Rice or Warren would be the safest.
With BLM/riots due to police brutality... Biden picks a cop as his VP? Who was also rejected pretty strenuously by the primary voters.... (remember, she only got like 8% of the total vote in her own state in California and even got ZERO actual delegates. Tulsi Gabbard has more the she does).
Alternatively, Kamala ought to be the fig leaf to the progressive/Bernie-bro wing as she's one of the the most liberal/leftist Senator today, so that should be exciting for them.
Beside the identity politics that Kamala does for Biden, my guess is that she's there to be the "pitbull" to go after Trump (which she can more than adequately do) and allow Biden to be that more elder states man in the General Election. Because, let's face it, Biden isn't all there....there's a reason why he's been hiding in his basement a lot.

Trump said the quiet part out loud again: can't have mail-in ballots if the USPS doesn't get the money it needs.

Someone help me here, because afaik the UAE and Isreal have never been at war. The UAE just never recognized Israel. So why is the English speakng media going along with the BS PR peace deal language. If this is a 'peace' deal, that means Taiwan is at war with almost the entire world. Words mean things people!

If I had the means, I wouldn't have placed her on that ticket. I ask because the party you support hasn't kicked her out yet. There is a difference between crazy, which the GoP has a lot of and QAnon level, which is downright fostering domestic terrorism as said by US intelligence agencies. Democrats might have crazy people, but nowhere near part of a movement like that. Rice has no political experience really, she is a bureaucrat, which isn't a bad thing, but it might not worl. Warren is old, white and perceived as too far left by some. Harris makes sense. Her AG term might only damage her to the left wing, but they won't vote for Trump anyway. While she might have done badly in the primary, she was the only one in the primary checking those boxes. Not many skeletons coming out of that closet anymore after the primary, as opposed to say Rice.

I dunno if this is a big deal or not... the information I'm reading is this is simply establishing diplomatic relations. I guess that's good, as Isreal is becoming less isolated in the mid-east, but there's a carrot that Israel is offering to the UAE - which is to cease annexing parts of the West Bank.

It's indeed a good thing, as this only has winners on all sides. The BS spin on it just makes my stomach turn trying to rewrite history.

Blame the GA primary voters for this. You just know that I'll disagree with you on this one. Kamala has plenty of skeletons coming... almost Hillary Clinton-esque. It's sad that Biden was cornered due to Identity politics. If he truly wanted to win, he'd select Bernie Sanders as his VP as Sanders was one of the few candidate that encouraged youth enthusiasm. In the General election, I'm not sure that the "Not Trump" is enough. We'll see....
