But that dude is part of the mindless idiots crowd.
Utterly stupid is going into the Capitol during a riot and then stealing federal property and somehow trying to sell it to Russia by what? Asking your Russian FB friend to contact the FSB saying you can sell them Pelosi's laptop?
One is a stupid spur of the moment thing taking an 'innocent'letter. The other a supposedly multi layered plan without any consideration for how it would even begin to work. Hence me leaning to a mindless spur of the moment theft. There is no federal confirmation of this supposed sale to Russia.

I'm not really disagreeing, I'm just wondering how much stuff might have walked out of the building with the "protesters" that we just don't know about yet. I know at least one was dumb enough to take pictures of an open computer screen in one congressman's office and post it to Twitter. Yeah, I doubt the whole "I found this laptop, anybody in Russia wanna buy it?" story, too. But I wouldn't be surprised if there was a variation closer to "I found this in a Democrat's office, any Republicans wanna buy it?"

But I also think it's possible to have issues with things like "cancel culture," Cancel culture can refer to two different things: - An overzealous drive for absolute militant purity in left-wing social justice spaces. Stuff like people being very angry at Contrapoint for featuring that trans guy as a voice-over in her video. This doesn't affect right-wingers in any way because they don't have a left-wing social justice audience anyway. Maybe they have their own version of it, but I don't really care much. - People saying massively bigoted things and suffering from (partial) social ostracisation as a result. That one is okay.

“Cancel culture” really just means “consequences for being an asshole or worse”. Anyone legitimately concerned about cancel culture is lying to himself or a monstrous hypocrite.
For fuck’s sake, the same people who are scared of cancel culture freak out at the phrase “happy holidays”. Remember when they wanted to cancel Kapernick? The Dixie Chicks? Every company Trump Twitter about? Calling it cancel culture when it’s served back to you just makes you sound like a whiny hypocrite bitch.

'Cancel culture' exists on both sides, just ask Keapernick.
Now frequently when right wingers cry 'cancel culture' its because people found some absolutely 8chan/incel level commentary on their behalf. "Its just a joke bro" only gets you so far in a civilized society. In the last 10 years, what would be a good example on the right wing falling victim to overzealous cancel culture? I'm kinda struggling to come up with an unjustified example.
It only exists because money talks, big corporations wouldn't give a crap otherwise. Turns out that when the majority of your consumer base disagrees with something (kneeling or antisemitic jokes), they tend to get rid of the element that threatens their cash flow. Same reason Nike got Keapernick involved, more money on that side of their audience.

So she was just arrested, apparently the Russia angle was told to the FBI by her ex, so that's one hell of an unreliable narrator.

Funny part is, I think at least a few of these people who have been identified were done so by their exes.

“Cancel culture” really just means “consequences for being an asshole or worse”. That's the second meaning I listed. The first exists too, but you need to be into a very specific circle to ever see it happen. Contrapoint's video on it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjMPJVmXxV8(Context if you don't know her, she is a trans woman who started making video mocking the far-right and then videos on trans issues, with a lot of theatrics and self-deprecating humor.)

Good old freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence.
I still think this is the completely wrong conversation.
There is no definition of freedom of speech that allows yelling fire in a crowded theater when there is in fact no fire. Incitement and causing panic are illegal even here but we’ve chosen to cowardly refuse to enact these laws on flimsy philosophical grounds and what-ifs for decades now and look where we are. Americans need to grow some confidence and stomp down on bullshit or bullshit will stomp down on them and this is no longer a what if question. Jan 6 has already demonstrated where we’re heading if we don’t use our own powers to take responsibility for our country and enact a better and more productive social contract.

So... The 1776 Commission Report.
What the fuck? I could single-handedly write a better summary of American history if I were given a semester or two to do it. This isn't me trying to jerk myself off either, the report is an absolute travesty. Are these the brightest minds the American right could conjure? Is this what passes for right-wing scholarship in the US?
"Cretins" is too kind.

My favorite part is the bit where they're whitewashing slavery as 'necessary for the nation at the time' and then immediately attack progressivism for engaging in moral relativism. It's actually humorous, because if we take this crap at face value, it's basically admitting the nation was founded slavery and would not exist as it does now if not for slavery. I could swear that's basically the argument presented by the 1619 Project and that this 'commission' was supposed to refute that premise.
These people are fucking morons.

Looks like Steve Bannon will get a pardon. Curious to see who else will get one in these last few hours.

Supposedly Trump's been talked out of pardoning himself and his children. Makes things a lot less spicy going forward and avoids a Constitutional crisis. It's a bold move. Let's see how it plays.

I sort of hope he does pardon his awful family. It means prosecutors can force them to testify on certain things and they cannot plead the 5th... and the pardon only works up until the time it was given, meaning reoccurring future crimes (i.e. financial stuff) is easy enough to hammer them with.
