I mean, VPN is meant to hide your location, so you could use VPN to circumvent the SK requirement for a personal number by hiding your country. Of course this might differ between global and SK sites. So for example, using a VPN to make your Twitter/FB account. Not even sure about FB and Twitter requiring those on Korea (I wasn't able to find an answer online) but I don't think those are popular in Korea anyway. I think people are more on Naver and other local websites. You can go on "shady" Korean website like Megalia (RIP), Womad and whatever the mascs equivalents are anonymously. But the "reputable" services ask for an ID. Including some western services which have special rules in Korea, like Blizzard's BattleNet : tl.net/forum/closed-threads/280959-how-to-get-a-korean-battlenet-accountSure, you can use BattleNet without and ID to play on non-KR servers... but enjoy your ping . Afaik SK has a massive hidden camera porn problem online, to the point of phones always having a camera sound on and apps that remove it again, so what does it actually achieve? It prevents harassment on Naver and in video games I guess? The shady websites sharing hidden camera porn are another problem entirely, you have to find who is operating the server, who is sending the porn, and prosecute all of them. South Korean society being what it is, there might not be enough efforts made to shut it down, maybe, but that's another problem entirely. This is quite interesting, but I think video game ping isn't really the thing that would be problematic. I'm just thinking that this personal code is an 'easy' solution that enables companies to carry on as always. For the West, you would need to tackle VPN providers and those that provide server hosting for this to have a large effect. Use a personal code in a Western country for Twitter for example, and everyone who wants to troll and harass would just move to a VPN provider or use sites like 8chan to continue harassing and doxing. The convenience with SK is that its quite an insular society enabling this manner, but FB and Twitter in the West have large cross border use. Not enough effort is exactly the problem though, because you can make all the rules/laws you want, but if we don't bother enforcing them, then its just pretending to care.

"Require ID for all your users or you won't be allowed to operate in [the US/the European Union] any longer."
If the market is big enough you have leverage. Most people who use Twitter or Facebook probably don't even know what a VPN is.

Erm... I've never ignored the violence perpetuated by MAGAheads. I just haven't seen that there were "increasing" numbers. No matter which group we look at, there are extremist in all of them, and some of them *do* perpetuate violence. Those assholes should face the full extent of the law and face punishments for any violent acts.
I *do* think white supremacy violence is on a rise (I recall seeing an FBI report about this, but can't find it at the moment) and I utterly despise them. Dylan Roof is facing the death penalty, and I'm not going to shed any tears or outrage if he is put to death, even when I don't support state sanction death penalty.
I don't think I've commented here since the 1/6 Capital riots or even before then, but I don't support any violence. I've condemned that MAGAhead in Florida sending mailbombs to Democrats/media personnel a few years ago. The other MAGA folks aren't responsible for that... the mailer is.
Just as the shooting of GOPers playing baseball by Bernie-bro James Hodgkinson...Bernie Sanders, other Bernie-bros and Democrats are not culpable of the shooter's actions.
Just like I've condemned the riots (not the protests mind you, those actually participating in violence) these past few years under the Aegis of BLM. Those protesting against police shooting and brutality are free to do so, and I'm not looking for anyway to inhibit/stop their fundamental right to protest.
Folks are free to protest, even vehemently, over stupid things (ie, the supposed "theft" of this election). But, the folks actually carrying out the violent acts, riotings, etc are culpable. Just like the rioters responding to police shootings are culpable. But, those capital protestors who didn't storm the capital are not culpable. Only those who actually did storm the capitol are culpable. Throw the books at them, with the very least tresspassing and those actions leading to the death of that officer should face at least manslaughter, if not murder charges.
The people have agency over their own actions. They're not automatons waiting for some secret commands on their favorite blog, podcast, news channel, actor or politicians.
As for the Cancel Culture discussion... I find it abhorrent to go after a target's means to make a living. Feel free to respond to what you think is bad speech with more speech, but it's beyond despicable to take away their means to making a living.

Innocent until proven guilty has nothing to do with it. Going back to Alex Jones and Mel Gibson there are oodles of video proof. This is not sending them to prison, this is rejecting them from a specific line of work where they actively hurt the participation/lives of others. Nobody has the right to work wherever they want, I don't get to be a pilot because I strongly believe I should be one without qualifications. Yeah, but you're still allowed to have other jobs. You seem to think it stops at being fired or even driven from a given field. Guess what, this follows people around. Let me ask, have you ever had to explain a termination to a potential employer?
This is ridiculous, you have no statistical data to back up this majority claim behind 'cancel culture'. The vocal people on Twitter are an absolutely tiny minority in society. Yeah, again, Whemb said the same shit about MAGAts. How'd that turn out again? Please clarify what you really meant by this.

Most people who use Twitter or Facebook probably don't even know what a VPN is. True, but if you're trying to argue talking about targeted harassment campaigns like Baron is, then we can't assume they won't know about VPN. As FB and Twitter are global, you won't stop the problem if people just use VPN to avoid restrictions. I think better rules are in order, but there are a lot of loopholes that need to be considered. Speak for yourself you filthy casual

I can only imagine what kind of absolute casual DOES care about ping (or Blizzard). I only play Dark Souls on super modded difficulty with one hand tied behind my back!

Oh Baron, it's adorable how you naively believe in the system so much and attempt to dodge any points brought up or questions. Well, wolf, it has been, on occasion, literally my job to make it work. To bust the people you insist make it fail. There are two types of people who take on that sort of job. The ones that give no fucks and don't care if it all burns down as long as the paycheck clears ad they get their pension at the end, and the ones who never give up fighting corruption. You can take a wild guess which one I like to see myself as.
As far as ignoring certain posts, wolf, the truth is multifaceted.
Some I can't truthfully answer without getting into Secret Squirrel territory.
Some I just didn't see.
And some, I give no shits about or are clearly meant to harass rather than honestly engage in dialogue.
Tannhauser42 had sent me what effectively amounts to a battleforce as a gift, which surprised the shit out of me and I came back to thank him and saw what had been posted after my first departure.
He, btw, sent me a note that he's washing his hands of this place as well, which means that HBMC is the last one here who I give a flying fuck what they think, and I'm pretty sure he knows were to reach me now.

Baron, that's a lot of words to say "I don't want to engage with differing opinions and would prefer to keep strawmanning everyone here."
Seriously, you have yet to even acknowledge that every single one of us HAS agreed that it is not purely good. You won't engage on Alex Jones, you dismissed civil court being exactly what you hate, and the justice system even more so. You handwave it away, or flat out ignore it or misrepresent the point.
And now you're busting out your tired old excuse of "secret squirrel shit" and I find it incredibly hard to believe it applies here, to this discussion to the point you can't even skirt around the edges of it. It's an awfully convenient excuse that I don't entirely buy as it only ever comes up when you're on the losing end of an argument.
And I'm sure you don't care, you've already stated we're all terrorists-in-waiting for not agreeing with you, but I feel like I need to call you out on your excessive bullshit.

Well, he is officially gone, that certainly was bizarre right up until the end. I'm honestly super confused. I've never seen him behave that way before. He's generally been way more personable and on point than that in the past. He didn't even seem to disagree on anything of substance. It's like he just decided throw a bunch of crap at the wall, blame everyone else for it, and ride a high horse all the way home.
This reminds me of that thread about RiTide's proposed forum, where several people pointed out conservatives ditch boards they can't control or dominate, then complain that the boards they left are an echo chamber. So... case and point I guess? It's easy to call something an echo chamber when you talk past everyone and just leave when they don't kiss your ass and feel aggrieved that you're calling them a bunch of McCarthyists and shit.

That was my read on him, admittedly he did react like this on a smaller scale when discussing "UnItY" and pardoning trump awhile ago though.

I'm really surprised, given that even now I can see users posting who have repeatedly made far far worse comments than I could ever imagine you making Hybrid.
