Yeah, long-term the extreme right is a threat to Israel's continued existence. The country won't be broken by outside forces, but internally it's perfectly possible.

Maybe it was meant more as survive as a (semi) democratic state instead of sliding into some sort of theocracy? Maybe, though the religious right have been losing power for decades and upwards of 60% of the Jewish population aren't religious.

Tesla's the target of a strike in Sweden, starting today. Workers are demanding Tesla sign collective agreements with their employees. These agreements are the cornerstone of the Swedish labour market and the reason we have no minimum wage. The companies that don't have these collective agreements are usually seen as untrustworthy fuck-scum, on account of usually *being* untrustworthy fuck-scum. Tesla is poised to bring in scabs which is more or less unheard of since 1938 when the current understanding between unions and employers was reached. The union that started striking today, IF Metall, is the biggest union in Sweden and the core of the meta-union LO that organizes Swedish workers (in the classic sense, i.e. the working class). When salary negotiations are held between the unions and the employer organisations it's IF Metall that sets the baseline that the other unions are compared to. The Social Democratic party was formed as the political arm of LO back in the late 1800s and are still tight. Former PM Stefan Löfven's major political experience before becoming PM was being the head of IF Metall. The Transport Worker Union has already announced solidarity strikes against Tesla at four major ports starting next week. Other major unions in finance and public administration are likely to drop the hammer if strike breakers are used. Meanwhile a senior manager for Tesla's Nordic operations didn't even know that bringing in scabs from other operations in Sweden counts as strike breaking and opens Tesla up to the legal possibility of a complete union blockade by every union in the country. Yes, but as the US shows, they can get more dangerous when they feel power slipping away, especially if only 2/3rds of the country shows up to vote.

Man, so good to see unified actions allowed to take place. The Tories made solidarity strikes illegal here in the UK in the 1990s, and it has never been repealed.

I've been reading some rumblings that IG Metall in Germany (funny how the metalworking unions end up with the same names...) might be gearing up to take on Tesla as well

Tesla is now threatening to fire striking workers which is illegal (even threatening to, let alone doing it).

Don't know if anyone else is getting the (pro-)Israeli propaganda video's on YT and such, the one about proportionality is disgusting. Can't believe someone thought it would be a good idea to clip "then Israel would need to find a music festival in Gaza" to intentionally badly discuss the concept of proportionality in international law around war.

Leaked Israeli document seems to be proposing what we probably all suspect; Evicting the Palestinians from Gaza into Egypt:
[Removed misleading quote]
To be fair to them, they are talking about setting up a tent city in the Sinai desert for them until Egypt can figure out something more permanent. There's absolutely zero chance they'll be allowed back once they've crossed the border though. It's straight up ethnic cleansing and against international law, and will result in a lot of deaths, but it's probably less politically bad than genocide. No doubt our weasel politicians will try and spin it as some kind of compromise and regurgitate how Israel needs to do what it can to protect itself from terrorists.

The Israeli government doing it's best to use up any goodwill from the collective guilt of the world over the Holocaust. Surely, surely only the most ardent Armageddonists in the Christian Evangelical movement can think this is a great idea.

Also, that a think tank proposed it doesn't mean it's an actual thing that Israel is planning on doing. Lots of think tanks push out extreme ideas that are never acted on or even really considered.
