Millions more salaried workers will be eligible for overtime pay under final Biden administration rule

Millions of salaried workers will soon qualify for overtime pay under a final rule released by the US Department of Labor on Tuesday.

The new rule raises the salary threshold under which salaried employees are eligible for overtime in two stages. The threshold will increase to the equivalent of an annual salary of $43,888, or $844 a week, starting July 1, and then to $58,656, or $1,128 a week, on January 1, 2025.

I will be interested to see if this ever sees the light of day, or if it gets tangled up and delayed in Lawfare tactics from business groups.

I don't know what is more depressing: that the rubbish build quality and huge design flaws passed code, or that 3800 people have bought this heap of rust.

Is anyone actually driving them? You have to carefully clean the car if it gets a squished bug to prevent rusting...

Judge blocks Biden administration rule capping credit card late fees at $8

A federal judge in Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday blocked a new Biden administration rule that would prohibit credit card companies from charging customers late fees higher than $8.

US District Judge Mark T. Pittman, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, granted a preliminary injunction to several business and banking organizations that allege the new rule violates several federal statutes.

These organizations, led by the right-leaning US Chamber of Commerce, sued the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau after the rule was finalized in March. The rule, which was set to go into effect Tuesday, would save consumers about $10 billion per year by cutting fees from an average of $32, the CFPB estimated.

Target scales back on its LGBTQ+ merchandise ahead of Pride Month 2024

Target says it will no longer sell its 2024 Pride Month collection in all of its stores following last year's conservative backlash over its LGBTQ+-themed merchandise.

The retail giant said in a press release last week that it plans to offer its collection of products to celebrate Pride Month — including adult clothing and home decor — during the month of June both online and in "select stores," depending on "historical sales performance."

In a statement to NPR, a spokesperson for the retailer says it is committed to supporting the LGBTQ+ community not only during Pride Month but year-round.

Unfortunately it's an awkward position. If they withdraw the pride stuff they let the assholes win, if they keep it the people at the top making the decision don't have to deal with the inevitable consequences. It's all going to fall on some poor minimum-wage retail employee to deal with the threats, vandalism, etc. The failure wasn't really by Target, it was the lack of criminal charges against the assholes.
