We were assured that Conservatives would not do that, as each state would get to decide how to handle it.

BOISE, Idaho – After clearing both legislative chambers, Idaho could become the first state in the country, according to Planned Parenthood, to criminally charge those who help pregnant minors get an abortion across state lines without parental consent.



If convicted, the penalty could be two to five years in prison under the bill passed by the Idaho Senate Thursday.



Neighboring Oregon, Montana, Washington and Wyoming currently allow abortions with varying levels of restrictions.

Also, the reason why Abortion is still allowed in Wyoming? Because right-wing new jerk reaction to Obama care made "health care" a Constitutional right in Wyoming, and abortion is health care.

Abortion is legal in Wyoming again, oddly enough as the result of a state constitutional amendment pushed by conservatives opposed to Obamacare more than a decade ago.



Teton County District Court Judge Melissa Owens temporarily blocked enforcement of the state’s newly enacted abortion ban that took effect Sunday.



Owens’ decision pointed to a 2012 amendment to the state constitution that intended to protect them from hypothetical harms contained in then-President Barack Obama’s signature health law, the Affordable Care Act.

That's a frequent theme that crops up when you have a conflict between what is best care for a child in a medical setting and what parents want.

Saw it over and over when the "kid with the illness that was turning his brain into water" legal case was happening. His team of doctors wanting to start palliative care and turn off life support as the condition was incompatible with any standard of living and life support only prolonged any suffering he may have been experiencing, meanwhile the parents were fighting to continue life support and you had quack doctors saying they could treat him without ever actually seeing his case notes.

Many people didn't understand how the doctors could stop the parents wishes, not understanding that the doctors ethical and legal responsibility was to the child and what was best for him, and not what the parents wanted to happen.

We used to treat women as the property of their husbands.  We literally considered black people to be property for a couple centuries.  Why is it surprising we'd treat our kids horribly, too?

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Abortion bans in deeply conservative Nebraska and South Carolina each fell a single vote short of passing in their legislatures amid heated debates among Republicans, yet another sign that abortion is becoming a difficult issue for the GOP.

As the last vote was cast in Nebraska, where abortion is currently banned after 20 weeks of pregnancy, cheers erupted outside the legislative chamber, with opponents of the bill waving signs and chanting, "Whose house? Our house!"

In South Carolina, Republican Sen. Sandy Senn criticized Majority Leader Shane Massey for repeatedly "taking us off a cliff on abortion."

"The only thing that we can do when you all, you men in the chamber, metaphorically keep slapping women by raising abortion again and again and again, is for us to slap you back with our words," she said.

The Nebraska proposal, backed by Republican Gov. Jim Pillen, is unlikely to move forward this year after the bill banning abortion around the sixth week of pregnancy fell one vote short of breaking a filibuster.

And in South Carolina, where abortion remains legal through 22 weeks of pregnancy, the vote marked the third time a near-total abortion ban has failed in the Republican-led Senate chamber since the U.S. Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade last summer.

A growing majority of Americans support legal abortion in at least the early months of pregnancy, but the public has become more politically divided on the issue, according to a new Gallup poll.

The data, released days before the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision that overturned decades of precedent, suggests continued growth in public support for abortion rights. It comes at a time when many states are implementing new restrictions, which often include only limited exceptions for medical emergencies.

A year after Dobbs, 61% of respondents said overturning Roe was a "bad thing," while 38% said it was a "good thing."

Lydia Saad, Gallup's director of U.S. social research, says overall, the data suggests that Dobbs "galvanized people who were already supportive of abortion rights. ...We've seen an increase in Democrats identifying as pro-choice, supporting abortion rights at every stage. It's really a very defensive posture, protecting abortion rights in the face of what they view as this assault."

Thankfully in the US, you do not have to give a shit what the Majority of likely voters think at the national level. It only matters at a district level. /S

My understanding was that the majority of people already had that stance, it was just a very vocal minority who want to ban it.

We shouldn't always assume a vocal minority is wrong simply for being the minority- minority rights have always been fought for by a minority by definition.

However, anything that takes rights away should be under higher scrutiny, and something that takes rights away that only a minority supports is most likely wrong. Definitely in the case of abortion access.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Abortion pills will remain legal in Wyoming for now, after a judge ruled Thursday that the state's first-in-the-nation law to ban them won't take effect July 1 as planned while a lawsuit proceeds.

Attorneys for Wyoming failed to show that the ban wouldn't harm the plaintiffs before their lawsuit is resolved, Teton County Judge Melissa Owens ruled after hearing arguments from both sides. Meanwhile, those plaintiffs "have clearly showed probable success on the merits," Owens said.

While other states have instituted de facto bans on the medication by broadly prohibiting abortion, only Wyoming has specifically banned abortion pills. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in April that access to one of the two pills, mifepristone, may continue while litigants seek to overturn the Food and Drug Administration's approval of it.

They're are also suing to stop a near-total ban on abortion enacted in Wyoming in March. Owens has suspended that law, too, and combined the two lawsuits.

Because abortion remains legal in Wyoming, banning abortion pills would require women to get more invasive surgical abortions instead, Marci Bramlet, an attorney for the ban opponents told Owens in Thursday's hearing.

Keep in mind, there is an amendment to the State constitution that gives citizens the right to own their own healthcare decisions that was passed as an attempt to thwart Obamacare in the state. This amendment is what is hanging up all of these anti-abortion laws as the courts are aligned that abortion is health care.
