Dakka as a whole is a very left of center site, both in administration and in membership. Whembly was definitely the most vocal of the right of center personalities there. Let's not kid ourselves though, a lot of what left of center posters were posting wasn't exactly much more coherent than Whemby's positions. Their opinions just bounced around an in-house echo chamber that reinforced their own beliefs.

Dakka is only left of center from a US perspective, and even then I'd question if it actually is. The amount of "rawr SJWs destroying the hobby" BS that keeps popping up 24/7 isn't exactly a hallmark of left-wing politics.

I would say Manchu kind of comes across a little conservative being more tolerant of feminist bashing, fairly Christian, etc but one mod isn't representative of the whole site either... |

Dakka is 'left of center' because humanity in general is 'left of center'. Conservatives have drawn their lines around ideology that appeals to a minority of people, which is why conservatives over the world are embracing voter suppression, voter roll manipulation, and 'alternative facts' in an attempt to stay in power.

From his posts, I think RITides is even more conservative, but also much more restrained. Alpharius was pretty old fashioned, too, when it came to "blue" humor. I think they may all know each other in real life, which helped reinforce the idea of the mods all sharing a specific political perspective.

Actually the mods generally live in the US, UK, and Aus, so they may or may not have met in real life, but are far enough apart physically that it would be more of an acquaintance then people who live locally.

I mean, I think those three in particular seem to live on the east coast within a couple hours' drive from each other at most. Not that it matters. There are plenty of mods who have issues. I was just talking about the way specific mods sometimes back each other up when the Nuts and Bolts threads go off the rails.

Frazzled was a mod a long while ago. Very interesting guy. No, that's not an insult!
I've met almost all of the mods in real life, and am at least Facebook friends with others. Any sort of common perspective is happenstance, though; we're all very much our own people. For example, I think that Manchu goes too far, and RiTides doesn't go too far enough! (Sorry, had to throw the Futurama joke in! I don't actually hold any of those stances).
Fun fact: I do my best and most entertaining moderating when I'm drunk.
