Yeah, like for voting! You know, how when if you want to vote, people have to prove that you are not allowed to vote and not the other way around. Oh wait, it doesn't work like this. Maybe it's because voting is a less important right than owning a gun??? Actually... it DOES work like that in most states. You just have to know to ask for a provisional ballot rather than walk away like a dumb ass.
How to avoid Voter Suppression 101.

Not really considering it violates not one, not two, not three, but FOUR different constitutional rights, by my count, and I'm told it may be higher.
Also, this is usually a really bad idea. Particularly if your firearms are valuable, they seem to go 'missing' in police custody. A friend of mine had his wife do this to him as part of their rather rough divorce. The police helped themselves to a little over a quarter million dollars in firearms, while she shot his now disarmed ass twice.
After only fifteen years, his son finally forced the Pittsburgh police to repay his father's estate for the value of the weapons.
So, take the late Mr Vandal's example of how badly this can do wrong.

The first politician that just admits that dead kids in schools are an acceptable price to pay for our gun rights gets my respect. It’s what everyone is thinking anyway.

"Violates the Constitution", that's what amendments are for. All the other arguments I've heard against the proposed legislation are weaksauce. "The cops might steal your guns" Pffft.

I agree though, they might.
The solution to that is to fix the damn police system. Otherwise no legislation is going to matter anyway.

Yeah, sure, they might. But that's no reason not to have public safety laws like this.
Should we take away the police's firearms? Because some of them might use those guns to shoot unarmed suspects. OH WAIT.

OH WAIT. TO fix this is to place the burden on the accuser, while maintaining proper due process to the gun owner. That can be done. Such laws at the time of that Parkland Shooting can prevent the shooter from purchasing his own firearms. (still won't stop him for acquiring firearms illegally tho).

I posit that most mass shooters could not illegally acquire a firearm, not counting "stolen from another member of the household".

Oh? Around here you show your ID or you GTFO.Is your friend planning to become the Punisher or what? On the first thing,as I sit on the local election board, we'd have some questions about that, because, at least in Pennsylvania, that's illegal. And, yes, we've caught people trying that shit, and had the police either arrest them or remove them from the polling place. You don't even have to show ID here after the first time.
On the second item, no, before his wife killed him, he was gun smith. He had a fairly extensive collection. Even worked on some of mine that needed repair.

My dead friend Dick might disagree with you. If he wasn't, you know, dead. Might seem strange to you, but laws like this one are WHAT GOT HIM KILLED.
particularly sicne the argument for is typically 'if it saves just one life' then we should do it, but if it costs someone their life, well, that does not matter.

I don't live in Pennsylvania though, the laws in Pennsylvania are very irrelevant where I live and it's in a country that does not have the history of voter suppression that the US have. On the second item, no, before his wife killed him, he was gun smith. Oh, that makes sense.

One of his last projects was to restore a WW1 armored car. The police had a terrible time getting that water cooled Maxim out of his house.

You contend that she could not have murdered him if he was armed? edit: I realize we are talking about a dead friend of yours. I do not mean to be callous or turn your friend into points with which we may score this debate by. I very much doubt that the confiscation of guns was the link that killed your friend though. If I had a psycho ex, hell bent on my death, then I'd make sure my affairs were in order each morning.

From what his son told me, he got away from her after the first shot, and managed to get back to the kitchen. They found him slumped against a cabinet I know had contained an Uzi. I'm guessing, after being shot the first time, he had forgotten it was not there anymore.
In my entire life, I have NEVER seen the police help in ANY WAY. The best you can expect from them is to wait till the noise stops and tag the bodies. The worst is they do show up in time to do something, and start shooting the wrong people.
Just last fall, some punks decided to shoot up my house. I called the cops, not wanting to put my neighbors lives at risk, overpenetrstion being a thing (where the bullet goes through the target and keeps going).
Time to reply to 911 call, 45 min. Distance traveled, 1 mile. So, I should expect the cops to protect me in any way? Are you nuts?
