I see a lot of defensive construction going on in Washington, the White House is almost hidden, shops boarded up etc. So At least they are prepared for the election though it's still surreal that's required. It really is surreal. They aren't wrong to prepare for rioting given what happened last time but it's the kind of thing we're supposed to see in some failed state dictatorship, not in a civilized country. As for if/when MAGA will riot, who knows. They're angry, they're stupid, they're armed, and they've spent the past four years hyping themselves up for a stolen election. But OTOH they've spent the past few months watching their idol falling apart on stage and they saw him do absolutely nothing to help any of the people who were arrested for the first riot/coup they attempted on his behalf. Even the ones that didn't go to prison over it know on some level that Trump is not going to save them if they try again and fail and that is pretty demoralizing. I'm not so sure, nothing else he's done has made any difference and no-one seemed to waver in support when he left the last round of patriots to to hang.
My concern is that they could riot either way*. With the close polling and red mirage, it will look to the uninformed voter that Trump is in the lead until it's stolen later on. He'll play on that again hard and they'll gobble it up. If they lose, it's clearly been stolen again and they'll need to step in to save the country. If they do win, then they'll need to get on with their purge of immigrants (or anyone who isn't white enough), political enemies, and fake news outlets.
*It's like the England soccer finals - if they win then domestic violence goes up 26%, if they lose it goes up 38%. And like a soccer final night, I wouldn't want to be loitering around any city centres or bars tonight, especially if I wasn't pasty white.

There was a sheriff that wanted to keep of list of Harris supporters... To add some balance, I'd seen a clip of a Mayor/Sheriff somewhere saying that if anyone wants to play militia and intimitade voters, then they can "F around and find out" and there's plenty jail space for them. I want to say it was Maryland but I'm not sure.

And so it begins - the rest of the world looks on with baited breath!
Some interesting stats from a BlueSky account I follow, referencing various polls and other snippets
- Nevin Michael final election poll: Electoral College, Harris: 319 Trump:219 - Nate Silver win probability: Trump 50.4%, Harris 49.2% - Univision Poll on Latino voters: Harris 64%, Trump 30%
- Approx 54% votes by women, only 44% by men (NBC News).
- Extra security fencing around the WH and Treasury department
- Dick Van Dyke has officially supported Kamala Harris!
For 2020 I put myself into a right state, staying up through the early hours doom-scrolling for the first week, this time I am not going to. What ever happens will happen, and the US will get the leadership (as we all do) that they deserve.

I genuinely can't understand why any Latino would vote for Trump.

With the caveat that I don't understand why anyone with a moderate ability to educate themselves votes for Trump, it's probably a mix of machismo, socially conservative (the fear of socialism) and the idea that Trump isn't talking about them, because they are obviously the good ones/American citizens.

Thanks. I can understand why a "left behind" rural white man or some right-wing-fed pensioners, would vote Trump, even if I disagree about it actually helping.
Latino voters thinking that Trump is talking about deporting other Latino voters would at least make a bit of sense.

Not even voters, but illegal immigrants. There are clips of Latino Trump supporters being interviewed around his rallies who support their own family members being deported, because they didn't come in the legal way like they did.
The old, "I did it right"/pulling the ladder up.

Plus, a lot of Latinos have come from countries they were not happy with, and Latin America and South America has a lot of history with Right versus Left politics. Therefore, some of them really, really hate any whiff of the Left. We saw this in previous elections with Cubans especially in South Florida.

That’s a far cry different from the sheriff who said he’d refuse to render aid to any Harris voters and would require proof you voted for Trump before he’d help you with anything.

Aren't sheriffs basically almost always elected positions? I guess you can simply take a quick look at the political color of your sheriff area to get an impression of how willing they are to stick their necks out.

Yup, and often it seems from a pool of 1.
It seems mad that you'd essentially elect your law enforcement given that they should be outside of politics. Justice being blind and all.
In the UK, you can elect some civil consultant type role, but the actual police staff all the way to the top are hired by the Government.

The idea is they are a political position that overseas police spending and where they focus their budgets. In theory, I am in favour of more democracy. In practice, I think Police and Crime commissioners don't really do a lot.

Got out and voted. Gave myself a bunch of extra time to wait in line, but that ended up unnecessary as it took me less than thirty minutes, including the drive there and back home.
